In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms 1Let not your heart be troubled: you trust in God, trust also in me. 2in my father's house are many mansions; however, I have told you, I am going to prepare a place for you: 3and when I am gone, and have prepar'd a place for you, I will come again, to take you with me, that where I am there ye may be also. 4and where I am going you know, and the way ye know. The Way, the Truth, and the Life 5Thomas said to him, Lord, we know not whither you are going, how then can we know the way? 6Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man can come to the father, but by me. 7if you had known me, you would likewise have known my father: and from henceforth you shall know him, nay, you have seen him. 8Philip said to him, Lord shew us the father, and we are satisfied. 9Jesus said to him, have I been with you so long, and don't you know me yet? Philip, he that hath seen me, hath seen the father; why then do you say, shew us the father? 10don't you believe that I am in the father, and the father in me? the words that I speak unto you, I speak indeed, tho' not from my self; but as to the works, the father, who dwells in me, he is the agent. 11believe me, I am in the father, and the father in me: at least believe me upon account of the very works. 12I assure you, he that believeth on me, shall likewise perform the works that I do; nay, greater works than these shall he do; because for that end am I going to my father. 13and if in my name ye shall ask any thing of the father, whereby he may be glorified by the son, I will effect it. 14when ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit 15if ye love me, keep my commandments. 16and I will pray the father, and he shall give you another advocate, to abide with you for ever; 17even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees nor knows him: but ye shall know him, for he shall dwell with you, and shall be in you. 18I will not leave you orphans; I will come again to you. 19yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more: but ye shall see me: because I shall live again, and ye shall live also. 20then shall you know, that I am in my father, and you in me, and I in you. 21he that hath received my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me, shall be beloved by my father, and I will love him, and shew my self unto him. 22Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, why Lord, will you show your self to us, and not to the world? 23Jesus answered him, he that loves me, will observe my precepts: and my father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24he does not love me, who does not observe my precepts: for the doctrine which you have heard, is not mine, but the father's who sent me. 25this is what I have to tell you, for the little time that I am with you. 26but the advocate, the holy spirit, whom the father will send for my sake, he will explain every thing to you, and make you remember, all that I have told you. Peace I Leave with You 27I bid you farewell! I give you my last farewell; but I do not give it out of common formality: don't be concern'd for me, or apprehensive for your selves. 28ye have heard me say, "I am going away, and shall come again unto you." if ye loved me, ye would rejoice at my going to the father: for the father is greater than I. 29this I have told you now, before it come to pass, that when it is come to pass, ye may believe, my conversation will now be but short with you, 30for the prince of the world is coming: 31not that he has any thing against me, but that the world may know that I love the father, by my executing the commands which my father gave me: arise, let us go hence.
