A song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, be not silent; be not speechless; be not still, O God.1A song, a psalm of Asaph. O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God!
See how Your enemies rage, how Your foes have reared their heads.2For look, your enemies are making a commotion; those who hate you are hostile.
With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish,3They carefully plot against your people, and make plans to harm the ones you cherish.
saying, “Come, let us erase them as a nation; may the name of Israel be remembered no more.”4They say, "Come on, let's annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more."
For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You—5Yes, they devise a unified strategy; they form an alliance against you.
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,6It includes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
of Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, of Philistia with the people of Tyre.7Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia and the inhabitants of Tyre.
Even Assyria has joined them, lending strength to the sons of Lot. Selah8Even Assyria has allied with them, lending its strength to the descendants of Lot. (Selah)
Do to them as You did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the River Kishon,9Do to them as you did to Midian--as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River!
who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground.10They were destroyed at Endor; their corpses were like manure on the ground.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna,
who said, “Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.”12who said, "Let's take over the pastures of God!"
Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind.13O my God, make them like dead thistles, like dead weeds blown away by the wind!
As fire consumes a forest, as a flame sets the mountains ablaze,14Like the fire that burns down the forest, or the flames that consume the mountainsides,
so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm.15chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm.
Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD.16Cover their faces with shame, so they might seek you, O LORD.
May they be ever ashamed and terrified; may they perish in disgrace.17May they be humiliated and continually terrified! May they die in shame!
May they know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are Most High over all the earth.18Then they will know that you alone are the LORD, the sovereign king over all the earth.
