My soul, bless the LORD! LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with majesty and splendor. | 1Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. |
He wraps himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, | 2The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent |
laying the beams of his palace on the waters above, making the clouds his chariot, walking on the wings of the wind, | 3and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. |
and making the winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. | 4He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. |
He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken. | 5He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. |
You covered it with the deep as if it were a garment; the water stood above the mountains. | 6You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. |
At your rebuke the water fled; at the sound of your thunder they hurried away-- | 7But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; |
mountains rose and valleys sank--to the place you established for them. | 8they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. |
You set a boundary they cannot cross; they will never cover the earth again. | 9You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. |
He causes the springs to gush into the valleys; they flow between the mountains. | 10He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. |
They supply water for every wild beast; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. | 11They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
The birds of the sky live beside the springs; they make their voices heard among the foliage. | 12The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. |
He waters the mountains from his palace; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of your labor. | 13He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work. |
He causes grass to grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, producing food from the earth, | 14He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth: |
wine that makes human hearts glad--making his face shine with oil--and bread that sustains human hearts. | 15wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts. |
The trees of the LORD flourish, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. | 16The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. |
There the birds make their nests; storks make their homes in the pine trees. | 17There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers. |
The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for hyraxes. | 18The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax. |
He made the moon to mark the festivals; the sun knows when to set. | 19He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. |
You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals stir. | 20You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. |
The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. | 21The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. |
The sun rises; they go back and lie down in their dens. | 22The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. |
Man goes out to his work and to his labor until evening. | 23Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening. |
How countless are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. | 24How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. |
Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number--living things both large and small. | 25There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small. |
There the ships move about, and Leviathan, which you formed to play there. | 26There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. |
All of them wait for you to give them their food at the right time. | 27All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. |
When you give it to them, they gather it; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. | 28When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. |
When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. | 29When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. |
When you send your breath, they are created, and you renew the surface of the ground. | 30When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. |
May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works. | 31May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works-- |
He looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they pour out smoke. | 32he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. |
I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live. | 33I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. |
May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the LORD. | 34May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. |
May sinners vanish from the earth and wicked people be no more. My soul, bless the LORD! Hallelujah! | 35But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, my soul. Praise the LORD. |
