Now you do not need to have anything written to you about times and dates, brothers, 1Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.
for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 2For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
When people say, "There is peace and security," destruction will strike them as suddenly as labor pains come to a pregnant woman, and they will not be able to escape.3While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
However, brothers, you are not in the darkness, in order that the Day of the Lord might surprise you like a thief. 4But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.
For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to darkness. 5For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
Therefore, let's not fall asleep like others do, but let's stay awake and be sober. 6So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.
For people who go to sleep, go to sleep at night; and people who get drunk, get drunk at night. 7For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
But since we belong to the day, let's be sober. We must put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation.
For God has not destined us to receive wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus, the Messiah,9For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
who died for us in order that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.
So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing.11Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.
Brothers, we ask you to show your appreciation for those who work among you, set an example for you in the Lord, and instruct you. 12But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work diligently among you, who preside over you in the Lord and give you instruction.
Hold them in the highest regard, loving them because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 13In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are idle, cheer up those who are discouraged, and help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 14And we urge you, brothers, to admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.
Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else. 15Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
Always be joyful. 16Rejoice at all times.
Continually be prayerful. 17Pray without ceasing.
In everything be thankful, because this is God's will for you in the Messiah Jesus. 18Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not put out the Spirit's fire.19Do not extinguish the Spirit.
Do not despise prophecies. 20Do not treat prophecies with contempt,
Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good. 21but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.
Keep away from every kind of evil.22Abstain from every form of evil.
May the God of peace himself make you holy in every way. And may your whole being—spirit, soul, and body—remain blameless when our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, appears. 23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who calls you is faithful, and he will continue to be faithful.24The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.
Brothers, pray for us. 25Brothers, pray for us as well.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I order you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers. 27I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with you! Amen. 28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
