From: Paul—an apostle not sent from men or by a man, but by Jesus the Messiah, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 1Paul, an apostle--not from men or by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead--
and all the brothers who are with me. To: The churches in Galatia.2and all the brothers who are with me: To the churches of Galatia.
May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be yours! 3Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ,
He gave himself for our sins in order to rescue us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father. 4who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.
To him be the glory forever and ever! Amen.5To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of the Messiah and, instead, are following a different gospel, 6I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from him who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--
not that another one really exists. To be sure, there are certain people who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel about the Messiah.7not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that person be condemned! 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, a curse be on him!
What we have told you in the past I am now telling you again: If anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that person be condemned! 9As we have said before, I now say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, a curse be on him!
Am I now trying to win the approval of people or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be the Messiah's servant. 10For am I now trying to persuade people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
For I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin. 11For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin.
For I did not receive it from a man, nor was I taught it, but it was revealed to me by Jesus the Messiah.12For I did not receive it from a human source and I was not taught it, but it came by a revelation of Jesus Christ.
For you have heard about my earlier life in Judaism—how I kept violently persecuting God's church and was trying to destroy it. 13For you have heard about my former way of life in Judaism: I intensely persecuted God's church and tried to destroy it.
I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries, because I was far more zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.14I advanced in Judaism beyond many contemporaries among my people, because I was extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.
But when God, who set me apart before I was born and who called me by his grace, was pleased 15But when God, who from my mother's womb set me apart and called me by his grace, was pleased
to reveal his Son to me so that I might proclaim him among the gentiles, I did not confer with another human being at any time, 16to reveal his Son in me, so that I could preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone.
nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before me. Instead, I went away to Arabia and then came back to Damascus.17I did not go up to Jerusalem to those who had become apostles before me; instead I went to Arabia and came back to Damascus.
Then three years later, I went up to Jerusalem to become acquainted with Cephas, and I stayed with him for fifteen days. 18Then after three years I did go up to Jerusalem to get to know Cephas, and I stayed with him fifteen days.
But I did not see any other apostle except James, the Lord's brother. 19But I didn't see any of the other apostles except James, the Lord's brother.
(Before God, what I'm writing to you is the truth.)20I declare in the sight of God: I am not lying in what I write to you.
Then I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia. 21Afterward, I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
But the churches of the Messiah that are in Judea did not yet know me personally. 22I remained personally unknown to the Judean churches that are in Christ.
The only thing they kept hearing was this: "The man who used to persecute us is now proclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy!" 23They simply kept hearing: "He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith he once tried to destroy."
So they kept glorifying God for what had happened to me.24And they glorified God because of me.
