One afternoon, Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for the three o'clock prayer time. | 1Now Peter and John were going up together to the temple complex at the hour of prayer at three in the afternoon. |
Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple. | 2And a man who was lame from birth was carried there and placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg from those entering the temple complex. |
When he saw that Peter and John were about to go into the Temple, he asked them to give him something. | 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple complex, he asked for help. |
Peter, along with John, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Look at us!" | 4Peter, along with John, looked at him intently and said, "Look at us." |
So the man watched them closely, expecting to get something from them. | 5So he turned to them, expecting to get something from them. |
However, Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold, but I'll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus the Messiah from Nazareth, walk!" | 6But Peter said, "I don't have silver or gold, but what I have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!" |
Then Peter took hold of his right hand and began to help him up. Immediately his feet and ankles became strong, | 7Then, taking him by the right hand he raised him up, and at once his feet and ankles became strong. |
and he sprang to his feet, stood up, and began to walk. Then he went with them into the Temple, walking, jumping, and praising God. | 8So he jumped up, stood, and started to walk, and he entered the temple complex with them--walking, leaping, and praising God. |
When all the people saw him walking and praising God, | 9All the people saw him walking and praising God, |
they knew that he was the man who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10and they recognized that he was the one who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the temple complex. So they were filled with awe and astonishment at what had happened to him. |
While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people came running to them in what was called "Solomon's Colonnade". They were dumbfounded. | 11While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people, greatly amazed, ran toward them in what is called Solomon's Colonnade. |
When Peter saw this, he told the people: "Fellow Israelis, why are you wondering about this, and why are you staring at us as if by our own power or godliness we made him walk? | 12When Peter saw this, he addressed the people: "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? Or why do you stare at us, as though we had made him walk by our own power or godliness? |
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even though he had decided to let him go. | 13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. |
You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you, | 14But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you. |
and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that. | 15You killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead; we are witnesses of this. |
It is his name—that is, by faith in his name—that has healed this man whom you see and know. Yes, the faith that comes through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. | 16By faith in His name, His name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. So the faith that comes through Him has given him this perfect health in front of all of you." |
"And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance like your leaders. | 17And now, brothers, I know that you did it in ignorance, just as your leaders also did. |
This is how God fulfilled what he had predicted through the voice of all the prophets—that his Messiah would suffer. | 18But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets--that His Messiah would suffer--He has fulfilled in this way. |
Therefore, repent and turn to him to have your sins blotted out, | 19Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, |
so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, whom he appointed long ago to be the Messiah. | 20and that He may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah. |
He must remain in heaven until the time of universal restitution, which God announced long ago through the voice of his holy prophets. | 21Heaven must welcome Him until the times of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about by the mouth of His holy prophets from the beginning. |
In fact, Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you. | 22Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to Him in everything He will say to you. |
Any person who will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.' | 23And everyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from the people." |
"Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who followed him, also announced these days. | 24In addition, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those after him, have also announced these days. |
You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he told Abraham, 'Through your descendant all the families of the earth will be blessed.' | 25You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, And all the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring. |
When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways." | 26God raised up His Servant and sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways." |
