One afternoon, Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for the three o'clock prayer time. | 1Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. |
Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple. | 2And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; |
When he saw that Peter and John were about to go into the Temple, he asked them to give him something. | 3Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. |
Peter, along with John, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Look at us!" | 4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. |
So the man watched them closely, expecting to get something from them. | 5And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. |
However, Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold, but I'll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus the Messiah from Nazareth, walk!" | 6Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. |
Then Peter took hold of his right hand and began to help him up. Immediately his feet and ankles became strong, | 7And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength. |
and he sprang to his feet, stood up, and began to walk. Then he went with them into the Temple, walking, jumping, and praising God. | 8And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. |
When all the people saw him walking and praising God, | 9And all the people saw him walking and praising God: |
they knew that he was the man who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. |
While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people came running to them in what was called "Solomon's Colonnade". They were dumbfounded. | 11And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. |
When Peter saw this, he told the people: "Fellow Israelis, why are you wondering about this, and why are you staring at us as if by our own power or godliness we made him walk? | 12And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? |
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even though he had decided to let him go. | 13The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. |
You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you, | 14But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; |
and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that. | 15And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. |
It is his name—that is, by faith in his name—that has healed this man whom you see and know. Yes, the faith that comes through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. | 16And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. |
"And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance like your leaders. | 17And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. |
This is how God fulfilled what he had predicted through the voice of all the prophets—that his Messiah would suffer. | 18But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. |
Therefore, repent and turn to him to have your sins blotted out, | 19Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; |
so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, whom he appointed long ago to be the Messiah. | 20And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: |
He must remain in heaven until the time of universal restitution, which God announced long ago through the voice of his holy prophets. | 21Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. |
In fact, Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you. | 22For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. |
Any person who will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.' | 23And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. |
"Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who followed him, also announced these days. | 24Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. |
You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he told Abraham, 'Through your descendant all the families of the earth will be blessed.' | 25Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. |
When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways." | 26Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. |
