Job 40
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:1Then the LORD said to Job,
"Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."2“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job Responds to the LORD
Then Job replied to the LORD. He said:3Then Job replied to the LORD,
"I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless. 4“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand.
I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore."5I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” The LORD Challenges Job Again
The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him:6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
"Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!7“Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.
Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?8“Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?
Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"9Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his?
"When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity, 10All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty.
dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,11Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud.
stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,12Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.
buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place, 13Bury them in the dust. Imprison them in the world of the dead.
then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"14Then even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you.
"Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.15“Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox.
Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.16See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly.
His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.17Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together.
His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.18Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron.
He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword. 19It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it.
Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.20The mountains offer it their best food, where all the wild animals play.
He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes. 21It lies under the lotus plants, hidden by the reeds in the marsh.
The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.22The lotus plants give it shade among the willows beside the stream.
What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.23It is not disturbed by the raging river, not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it.
Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"24No one can catch it off guard or put a ring in its nose and lead it away.
