The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:1Then the LORD answered Job:
"Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."2"Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!"
Then Job replied to the LORD. He said:3Then Job answered the LORD:
"I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless. 4"Indeed, I am completely unworthy--how could I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth to silence myself.
I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore."5I have spoken once, but I cannot answer; twice, but I will say no more."
The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him:6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
"Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!7"Get ready for a difficult task like a man. I will question you and you will inform me!
Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?8Would you indeed annul my justice? Would you declare me guilty so that you might be right?
Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"9Do you have an arm as powerful as God's, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
"When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity, 10Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor!
dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,11Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low;
stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,12Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot!
buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place, 13Hide them in the dust together, imprison them in the grave.
then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"14Then I myself will acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you.
"Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.15"Look now at Behemoth, which I made as I made you; it eats grass like the ox.
Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.16Look at its strength in its loins, and its power in the muscles of its belly.
His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.17It makes its tail stiff like a cedar, the sinews of its thighs are tightly wound.
His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.18Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like bars of iron.
He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword. 19It ranks first among the works of God, the One who made it has furnished it with a sword.
Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.20For the hills bring it food, where all the wild animals play.
He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes. 21Under the lotus trees it lies, in the secrecy of the reeds and the marsh.
The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.22The lotus trees conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream conceal it.
What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.23If the river rages, it is not disturbed, it is secure, though the Jordan should surge up to its mouth.
Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"24Can anyone catch it by its eyes, or pierce its nose with a snare?
