So then, my brothers and sisters, dear friends whom I long to see, my joy and crown, stand in the Lord in this way, my dear friends! | 1So then, my dearly loved and longed for brothers and sisters, my joy and crown, in this manner stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. |
I appeal to Euodia and to Syntyche to agree in the Lord. | 2I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to agree in the Lord. |
Yes, I say also to you, true companion, help them. They have struggled together in the gospel ministry along with me and Clement and my other coworkers, whose names are in the book of life. | 3Yes, I also ask you, true partner, to help these women who have contended for the gospel at my side, along with Clement and the rest of my coworkers whose names are in the book of life. |
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice! | 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! |
Let everyone see your gentleness. The Lord is near! | 5Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. |
Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. | 6Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. |
And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. | 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. |
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. | 8Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable--if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy--dwell on these things. |
And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you. | 9Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. |
I have great joy in the Lord because now at last you have again expressed your concern for me. (Now I know you were concerned before but had no opportunity to do anything.) | 10I rejoiced in the Lord greatly because once again you renewed your care for me. You were, in fact, concerned about me but lacked the opportunity to show it. |
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance. | 11I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself. |
I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing. | 12I know both how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content--whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. |
I am able to do all things through the one who strengthens me. | 13I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. |
Nevertheless, you did well to share with me in my trouble. | 14Still, you did well by partnering with me in my hardship. |
And as you Philippians know, at the beginning of my gospel ministry, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in this matter of giving and receiving except you alone. | 15And you Philippians know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone. |
For even in Thessalonica on more than one occasion you sent something for my need. | 16For even in Thessalonica you sent gifts for my need several times. |
I do not say this because I am seeking a gift. Rather, I seek the credit that abounds to your account. | 17Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the profit that is increasing to your account. |
For I have received everything, and I have plenty. I have all I need because I received from Epaphroditus what you sent--a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God. | 18But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided--a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. |
And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. | 19And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. |
May glory be given to God our Father forever and ever. Amen. | 20Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. |
Give greetings to all the saints in Christ Jesus. The brothers with me here send greetings. | 21Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you greetings. |
All the saints greet you, especially those who belong to Caesar's household. | 22All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar's household. |
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. | 23The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. |
