Isaiah 43
NET Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
Now, this is what the LORD says, the one who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: "Don't be afraid, for I will protect you. I call you by name, you are mine. 1But now this is what the LORD says, the one who created you, Jacob, the one who formed you, Israel: "Do not be afraid, because I've redeemed you. I've called you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I am with you; when you pass through the streams, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you. 2When you pass through the waters, I'll be with you; and through the rivers, they won't sweep over you. when you walk through fire you won't be scorched, and the flame won't set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your deliverer. I have handed over Egypt as a ransom price, Ethiopia and Seba in place of you. 3"I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Redeemer. And I've given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and the people of Seba in exchange for you.
Since you are precious and special in my sight, and I love you, I will hand over people in place of you, nations in place of your life. 4Since you're precious in my sight and honored, and because I love you, I'm giving up people in your place, and nations in exchange for your life."
Don't be afraid, for I am with you. From the east I will bring your descendants; from the west I will gather you. 5"Don't be afraid, for I am with you; I'll bring your children from the east, and gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, 'Hand them over!' and to the south, 'Don't hold any back!' Bring my sons from distant lands, and my daughters from the remote regions of the earth, 6I'll say to the north, 'Give them up'! and to the south, 'Don't keep them back!' Bring my sons from far away and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
everyone who belongs to me, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed--yes, whom I made! 7everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.
Bring out the people who are blind, even though they have eyes, those who are deaf, even though they have ears! 8"Bring out the people who are blind, yet still have eyes, who are deaf, yet still have ears!
All nations gather together, the peoples assemble. Who among them announced this? Who predicted earlier events for us? Let them produce their witnesses to testify they were right; let them listen and affirm, 'It is true.' 9Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the peoples be assembled. "Who is there among them who can declare this, or announce the former things? Let them produce their witnesses to prove them right, and let them proclaim so people will say, 'It's true.'
You are my witnesses," says the LORD, "my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe in me, and understand that I am he. No god was formed before me, and none will outlive me. 10"You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and trust me and understand that I am the One. Before me no God was formed, nor will there be one after me.
I, I am the LORD, and there is no deliverer besides me. 11I, yes I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.
I decreed and delivered and proclaimed, and there was no other god among you. You are my witnesses," says the LORD, "that I am God. 12I've revealed and saved and proclaimed, when there was no foreign god among you — and you are my witnesses," declares the LORD.
From this day forward I am he; no one can deliver from my power; I will act, and who can prevent it?" 13"I am God; also from ancient days I am the one. And there is no one who can deliver out of my hand; when I act, who can reverse it?"
This is what the LORD says, your protector, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I send to Babylon and make them all fugitives, turning the Babylonians' joyful shouts into mourning songs. 14This is what the LORD says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon, and bring them all down as fugitives. Now as for the Babylonians, their ringing cry will become lamentation.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, the one who created Israel, your king." 15I am the LORD, your Holy One, Creator of Israel, and your King."
This is what the LORD says, the one who made a road through the sea, a pathway through the surging waters, 16This is what the LORD says — who makes a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, together with a mighty army. They fell down, never to rise again; they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick: 17who brings out chariots and horsemen, and armies and warriors at the same time. They lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a candle:
"Don't remember these earlier events; don't recall these former events. 18"Don't remember the former things; don't dwell on things past.
"Look, I am about to do something new. Now it begins to happen! Do you not recognize it? Yes, I will make a road in the desert and paths in the wilderness. 19Watch! I'm about to carry out something new! And now it's springing up— don't you recognize it? I'm making a way in the wilderness and paths in the desert.
The wild animals of the desert honor me, the jackals and ostriches, because I put water in the desert and streams in the wilderness, to quench the thirst of my chosen people, 20Wild animals, jackals, and owls will honor me because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wilderness to give drink to my people, my chosen ones,
the people whom I formed for myself, so they might praise me." 21the people whom I formed for myself and so that they may speak my praise."
"But you did not call for me, O Jacob; you did not long for me, O Israel. 22 "And yet you didn't call upon me, Jacob; indeed, you are tired of me, Israel!
You did not bring me lambs for your burnt offerings; you did not honor me with your sacrifices. I did not burden you with offerings; I did not make you weary by demanding incense. 23You haven't brought me your sheep for a burnt-offering, nor have you honored me with your sacrifices, nor have you made meal offerings for me — yet I have not tired you about incense!
You did not buy me aromatic reeds; you did not present to me the fat of your sacrifices. Yet you burdened me with your sins; you made me weary with your evil deeds. 24You haven't bought me sweet cane with money, nor have you satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices. You have only burdened me with your sins and made me tired with your iniquities.
I, I am the one who blots out your rebellious deeds for my sake; your sins I do not remember. 25"I, I am the one who blots out your transgression for my own sake, and I'll remember your sins no more.
Remind me of what happened! Let's debate! You, prove to me that you are right! 26Recount the brief! Let's argue the matter together; Present your case, so that you may be proved right.
The father of your nation sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me. 27Your first ancestor sinned, and your mediators rebelled against me.
So I defiled your holy princes, and handed Jacob over to destruction, and subjected Israel to humiliating abuse." 28So I'll disgrace the leaders of the Temple, and I'll consign Jacob to total destruction and Israel to contempt.
