At that same time the LORD said to me, "Carve out for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones and come up the mountain to me; also make for yourself a wooden ark.1"At that time the LORD said to me, 'Cut out for yourself two tablets of stone like the former ones, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood for yourself.
I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the first tablets you broke, and you must put them into the ark."2'I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark.'
So I made an ark of acacia wood and carved out two stone tablets just like the first ones. Then I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.3"So I made an ark of acacia wood and cut out two tablets of stone like the former ones, and went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hand.
The LORD then wrote on the tablets the same words, the ten commandments, which he had spoken to you at the mountain from the middle of the fire at the time of that assembly, and he gave them to me.4"He wrote on the tablets, like the former writing, the Ten Commandments which the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me.
Then I turned, went down the mountain, and placed the tablets into the ark I had made--they are still there, just as the LORD commanded me. 5"Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, as the LORD commanded me."
"During those days the Israelites traveled from Beeroth Bene-Yaaqan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and his son Eleazar became priest in his place.6(Now the sons of Israel set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and there he was buried and Eleazar his son ministered as priest in his place.
From there they traveled to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a place of flowing streams.7From there they set out to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the LORD's covenant, to stand before the LORD to serve him, and to formulate blessings in his name, as they do to this very day.8At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve Him and to bless in His name until this day.
Therefore Levi has no allotment or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance just as the LORD your God told him.9Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, just as the LORD your God spoke to him.)
As for me, I stayed at the mountain as I did the first time, forty days and nights. The LORD listened to me that time as well and decided not to destroy you.10"I, moreover, stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights like the first time, and the LORD listened to me that time also; the LORD was not willing to destroy you.
Then he said to me, "Get up, set out leading the people so they may go and possess the land I promised to give to their ancestors." 11"Then the LORD said to me, 'Arise, proceed on your journey ahead of the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.'
Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you except to revere him, to obey all his commandments, to love him, to serve him with all your mind and being,12"Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
and to keep the Lord's commandments and statutes that I am giving you today for your own good?13and to keep the LORD'S commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?
The heavens--indeed the highest heavens--belong to the LORD your God, as does the earth and everything in it.14"Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it.
However, only to your ancestors did he show his loving favor, and he chose you, their descendants, from all peoples--as is apparent today.15"Yet on your fathers did the LORD set His affection to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day.
Therefore, cleanse your heart and stop being so stubborn!16"So circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer.
For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God who is unbiased and takes no bribe,17"For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe.
who justly treats the orphan and widow, and who loves resident foreigners, giving them food and clothing.18"He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.
So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.19"So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
Revere the LORD your God, serve him, be loyal to him and take oaths only in his name.20"You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.
He is the one you should praise; he is your God, the one who has done these great and awesome things for you that you have seen.21"He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen.
When your ancestors went down to Egypt, they numbered only seventy, but now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky. 22"Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.
