| 1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. | 1Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray at all times and not lose heart: |
| 2He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. | 2“In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected men. |
| 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' | 3And there was a widow in that town who kept appealing to him, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ |
| 4"For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care what people think, | 4For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect men, |
| 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually come and attack me!'" | 5yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice. Then she will stop wearing me out with her perpetual requests.’ ” |

| 14"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God.
