And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”1Then Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God arrive with power.”
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.2After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them.
His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.3His clothes became radiantly white, brighter than any launderer on earth could bleach them.
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.4And Elijah and Moses appeared before them, talking with Jesus.
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—5Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.6For they were all so terrified that Peter did not know what else to say.
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”7Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!”
Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.8Suddenly, when they looked around, they saw no one with them except Jesus.
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus admonished them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.10So they kept this matter to themselves, discussing what it meant to rise from the dead.
And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”11And they asked Jesus, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?12He replied, “Elijah does indeed come first, and he restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected?
But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”13But I tell you that Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they wished, just as it is written about him.”
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.14When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him.15As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were filled with awe and ran to greet Him.
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”16“What are you disputing with them?” He asked.
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.17Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit that makes him mute.
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”18Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked Your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable.”
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”19“O unbelieving generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to Me.”
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.20So they brought him, and seeing Jesus, the spirit immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.21Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been with him?” “From childhood,” he said.
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”22“It often throws him into the fire or into the water, trying to kill him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”23“If You can?” echoed Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!”
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”24Immediately the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”25When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.”
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”26After shrieking and convulsing him violently, the spirit came out. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, “He is dead.”
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.27But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”28After Jesus had gone into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”29Jesus answered, “This kind cannot come out, except by prayer.”
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.30Going on from there, they passed through Galilee. But Jesus did not want anyone to know,
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”31because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise.”
But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.32But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.
Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?”33Then they came to Capernaum. While Jesus was in the house, He asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.34But they were silent, for on the way they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”35Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the last of all and the servant of all.”
Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,36Then He had a little child stand among them. Taking the child in His arms, He said to them,
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”37“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the One who sent Me.”
Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”38John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone else driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not accompany us.”
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.39“Do not stop him,” Jesus replied. “For no one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me.
For he who is not against us is on our side.40For whoever is not against us is for us.
For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.41Indeed, if anyone gives you even a cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.42But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—43If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell, into the unquenchable fire.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’44
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—45If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’46
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—47And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’48where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.’
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.49For everyone will be salted with fire.
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”50Salt is good, but if the salt loses its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
