And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”1Then he told them, "I tell all of you with certainty, some people standing here will not experience death until they see the kingdom of God arrive with power."
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.2Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain to be alone with him. His appearance was changed in front of them,
His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.3and his clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them.
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.4Then Elijah appeared to them, accompanied by Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—5Then Peter told Jesus, "Rabbi, it's good that we're here! Let's set up three shelters —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.6(Peter didn't know how to respond, because they were terrified.)
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”7Then a cloud appeared and overshadowed them. A voice came out of the cloud and said, "This is my Son, whom I love. Keep on listening to him!"
Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.8Suddenly, as they looked around, they saw no one with them but Jesus alone.
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.9On their way down the mountain, Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.10They kept the matter to themselves but argued about what "rising from the dead" meant.
And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”11So they asked him, "Don't the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?12He told them, "Elijah is indeed coming first and will restore all things. Why, then, is it written that the Son of Man must suffer a great deal and be treated shamefully?
But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”13But I tell you that Elijah has come, yet people treated him just as they pleased, as it is written about him."
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.14As they approached the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and some scribes arguing with them.
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him.15The whole crowd was very surprised to see Jesus and ran to welcome him.
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”16He asked the scribes, "What are you arguing about with them?"
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.17A man in the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought my son to you. He has a spirit that won't let him talk.
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”18Whenever it brings on a seizure, it throws him to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes stiff. So I asked your disciples to drive the spirit out, but they didn't have the power."
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”19Jesus told them, "You unbelieving generation! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to me!"
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.20So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into convulsions. He fell on the ground and kept rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.21Then Jesus asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" He said, "Since he was a child.
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”22The spirit has often thrown him into fire and into water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us!"
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”23Jesus told him, "'If you are able?' Everything is possible for the person who believes!"
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”24With tears flowing, the child's father at once cried out, "I do believe! Help my unbelief!"
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”25When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You spirit that won't let him talk or hear—I command you to come out of him and never enter him again!"
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”26The spirit screamed, shook the child violently, and came out. The boy was like a corpse, and many said that he was dead.
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.27But Jesus took his hand and helped him up, and he stood up.
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”28When Jesus came home, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive the spirit out?"
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”29He told them, "This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting."
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.30Then they left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus didn't want anyone to find out about it,
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”31because he was teaching his disciples, "The Son of Man will be betrayed into human hands. They will kill him, but after being dead for three days he will be raised."
But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.32They didn't understand what this statement meant, and they were afraid to ask him.
Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?”33Then they came to Capernaum. While Jesus was at home, he asked the disciples, "What were you arguing about on the road?"
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.34But they kept silent, because they had argued on the road with one another about who was the greatest.
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”35So he sat down, called the Twelve, and told them, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."
Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,36Then he took a little child and had him stand among them. He took him in his arms and told them,
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”37"Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me."
Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”38John told Jesus, "Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name. We tried to stop him, because he wasn't a follower like us."
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.39But Jesus said, "Don't stop him, because no one who works a miracle in my name can slander me soon afterwards.
For he who is not against us is on our side.40Whoever is not against us is for us.
For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.41I tell all of you with certainty, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to the Messiah will never lose his reward."
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.42"If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a large millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—43So if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better for you to enter life injured than to have two hands and go to hell, to the fire that cannot be put out.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’44In that place, worms never die, and the fire is never put out.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—45And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’46In that place, worms never die, and the fire is never put out.
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—47And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It's better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’48In that place, worms never die, and the fire is never put out.
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.49Because everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be salted with salt.
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”50Salt is good. But if salt loses its taste, how can you restore its flavor? Keep on having salt among yourselves, and live in peace with one another."
