| 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. | 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea no longer existed. |
| 2And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. | 2I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. |
| 3I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. | 3Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look! God's dwelling is with humanity, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. |
| 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” | 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away. |
| 5And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” | 5Then the One seated on the throne said, "Look! I am making everything new." He also said, "Write, because these words are faithful and true." |
| 6And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. | 6And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give water as a gift to the thirsty from the spring of life. |
| 7All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. | 7The victor will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. |
| 8“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” | 8But the cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars--their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death." |
| 9Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! | 13There were three gates on each side—east, north, south, and west. | 13There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. |
| 14The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. | 14The city wall had 12 foundations, and the 12 names of the Lamb's 12 apostles were on the foundations. |

| 21The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass. | 21The 12 gates are 12 pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The broad street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. |
| 22I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. | 22I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. |
| 23And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. | 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God's glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. |
| 24The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory. | 24The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. |
| 25Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there. | 25Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. |
| 26And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city. | 26They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. |
| 27Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. | 27Nothing profane will ever enter it: no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb's book of life. |
