1Jesus went on to say, “I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God arrive in great power!” The Transfiguration

1And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

2Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed,

2And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

3and his clothes became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them.

3And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

4Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus.

4And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

5Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

6He said this because he didn’t really know what else to say, for they were all terrified.

6For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.”

7And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

8Suddenly, when they looked around, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus with them.

8And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

9As they went back down the mountain, he told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

9And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

10So they kept it to themselves, but they often asked each other what he meant by “rising from the dead.”

10And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

11Then they asked him, “Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes? ”

11And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

12Jesus responded, “Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be treated with utter contempt?

12And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

13 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they chose to abuse him, just as the Scriptures predicted.” Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

13But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

14When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd surrounding them, and some teachers of religious law were arguing with them.

14And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

15When the crowd saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with awe, and they ran to greet him.

15And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

16 “What is all this arguing about?” Jesus asked.

16And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

17One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk.

17And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

18And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.”

18And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

19Jesus said to them, “You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

19He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

20So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.

20And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

21 “How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy.

21And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

22The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”

22And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

24The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”

24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

25When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!”

25When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

26Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, “He’s dead.”

26And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

27But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.

27But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

28Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, “Why couldn’t we cast out that evil spirit?”

28And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

29Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer. ” Jesus Again Predicts His Death

29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

30Leaving that region, they traveled through Galilee. Jesus didn’t want anyone to know he was there,

30And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

31for he wanted to spend more time with his disciples and teach them. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. He will be killed, but three days later he will rise from the dead.”

31For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

32They didn’t understand what he was saying, however, and they were afraid to ask him what he meant. The Greatest in the Kingdom

32But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, “What were you discussing out on the road?”

33And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

34But they didn’t answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.

34But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

35He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

35And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

36Then he put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them,

36And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

37 “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.” Using the Name of Jesus

37Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

38John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he wasn’t in our group.”

38And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

39 “Don’t stop him!” Jesus said. “No one who performs a miracle in my name will soon be able to speak evil of me.

39But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.

40For he that is not against us is on our part.

41 If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded.

41For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

42 “But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck.

42And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands.

43And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44	44Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet.

45And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

46	46Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It’s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

47And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48 ‘where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.’

48Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

49 “For everyone will be tested with fire.

49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50 Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.”

50Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
