1 Chronicles 5:10
During the days of Saul they waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their hands, and they occupied the homes of the Hagrites throughout the region east of Gilead.
During the days of Saul

The conflict occurred during the reign of Israel’s first king, when Saul defended the nation against enemies on several fronts. The tribes east of the Jordan remained part of Israel’s covenant people and shared in the responsibility of securing the land God had given them.

they waged war against the Hagrites,

The Hagrites were desert peoples living near the eastern borders of Israel. Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh faced them alongside other related tribes, including Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. Their struggle involved control of pastureland, water, livestock, and settled territory.

who were defeated at their hands,

Israel’s victory was not merely the result of military strength. The following account records that they cried out to God in battle, and He answered because they trusted in Him. Their deliverance demonstrated that the security of God’s people depended upon faith and obedience rather than numbers or weapons.

and they occupied the dwellings of the Hagrites

The tribes took possession of the Hagrites’ settlements and resources, extending their place of residence and providing room for their large herds. Such possession also carried the responsibility to remain faithful to the Lord who had granted the victory.

The territory east of Gilead lay beyond the Jordan and included valuable grazing lands. Its occupation strengthened Israel’s eastern frontier, yet the later history of these tribes warns that military success and material abundance could not preserve them when they turned from God.

Conclusion
"Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth" (Rev. 19:6). In our Foreword to the Second Edition we acknowledge the need for preserving the balance of Truth. Nor is this unnatural. The book
