The Outcome

Rehoboam chose to follow the advice of the young men, rejecting the prudent counsel of the elders. This decision led to disastrous consequences. The harsh response incited rebellion, resulting in the division of the kingdom. Ten tribes broke away under Jeroboam's leadership, forming the northern kingdom of Israel, while Rehoboam retained control over the southern kingdom of Judah. This division fulfilled the prophecy given to Jeroboam by the prophet Ahijah (1 Kings 11:29-31).

The account of Rehoboam's advisers serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of prudence in leadership.
