In this parable, the self-righteous Pharisee is contrasted with the humble tax collector, who acknowledges his sinfulness and seeks God's mercy. Jesus concludes, "I tell you, this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted" (Luke 18:14). This narrative emphasizes humility and repentance as key components of true righteousness.

Moreover, Jesus' interactions with individuals often reveal His emphasis on righteousness. When speaking to the rich young ruler, Jesus instructs him to sell his possessions and give to the poor, saying, "Then come, follow Me" (Matthew 19:21). This encounter highlights the call to prioritize spiritual wealth over material possessions, aligning one's life with the values of the Kingdom of God.

Throughout His ministry, Christ consistently points to Himself as the embodiment of righteousness. In John 14:6, He declares, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" . This statement affirms that true righteousness is found in a relationship with Christ, who is the ultimate standard and source of righteousness for believers.

In summary, Christ's preaching on righteousness calls for an inward transformation that aligns one's heart and actions with the will of God. It is a righteousness that transcends legalistic observance, rooted in humility, sincerity, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
