In the parable of the wedding banquet found in Matthew 22:11-14 , Jesus illustrates the necessity of wearing the proper wedding garment, symbolizing the righteousness required to enter the kingdom of heaven. The absence of this garment results in exclusion from the feast, highlighting the essential nature of being clothed in righteousness.

The concept of being covered with the robe of righteousness is central to the identity and assurance of the saints.
