God’s Righteous Judgment
(Romans 2:1–16)

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ (For the one directing): אַל־ (To “Do not) תַּשְׁחֵ֑ת (Destroy). מִזְמ֖וֹר (A Psalm) לְאָסָ֣ף (of Asaph). שִֽׁיר׃ (A Song).

1ה֘וֹדִ֤ינוּ (We give thanks) לְּךָ֨׀ (to You), אֱ‍ֽלֹהִ֗ים (O God);

ה֭וֹדִינוּ (we give thanks), וְקָר֣וֹב (and for is near) שְׁמֶ֑ךָ (Your name).

סִ֝פְּר֗וּ (Recounting) נִפְלְאוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ (Your wonders).

2  כִּ֭י (When) אֶקַּ֣ח (I take) מוֹעֵ֑ד (the appointed place),

אֲ֝נִ֗י (I) מֵישָׁרִ֥ים (uprightly) אֶשְׁפֹּֽט׃ (will judge).

3  נְֽמֹגִ֗ים (At the dissolving) אֶ֥רֶץ (of the earth) וְכָל־ (and all) יֹשְׁבֶ֑יהָ (its dwellers);

אָנֹכִ֨י (I) תִכַּ֖נְתִּי (measure out) עַמּוּדֶ֣יהָ (its pillars).

סֶּֽלָה׃ (Selah)

4  אָמַ֣רְתִּי (I said) לַֽ֭הוֹלְלִים (to those boasting), אַל־ (Not) תָּהֹ֑לּוּ (shall you⁺ boast),

וְ֝לָרְשָׁעִ֗ים (and to the wicked), אַל־ (Not) תָּרִ֥ימוּ (you⁺ shall lift up) קָֽרֶן׃ (the horn);

5  אַל־ (not) תָּרִ֣ימוּ (shall you⁺ lift up) לַמָּר֣וֹם (to the height) קַרְנְכֶ֑ם (your⁺ horn)

תְּדַבְּר֖וּ (or speak) בְצַוָּ֣אר (with a neck) עָתָֽק׃ (with an insolent).

6  כִּ֤י (For) לֹ֣א (it is not) מִ֭מּוֹצָא (from the going forth), וּמִֽמַּעֲרָ֑ב (or from the sinking),

וְ֝לֹ֗א (and not) מִמִּדְבַּ֥ר (from the wilderness) הָרִֽים׃ (is exaltation).

7  כִּֽי־ (But) אֱלֹהִ֥ים (God) שֹׁפֵ֑ט (is judging);

זֶ֥ה (this one) יַ֝שְׁפִּ֗יל (He brings low), וְזֶ֣ה (and this one) יָרִֽים׃ (He lifts up).

8  כִּ֤י (For) כ֪וֹס (a cup) בְּֽיַד־ (is in the hand) יְהוָ֡ה (of YHWH)

וְיַ֤יִן (and the wine) חָמַ֨ר׀ (is foaming); מָ֥לֵא (full of) מֶסֶךְ֮ (mixture),

וַיַּגֵּ֪ר (and He shall pour out) מִ֫זֶּ֥ה (from this);

אַךְ־ (how) שְׁ֭מָרֶיהָ (its dregs) יִמְצ֣וּ (shall be wrung out),

יִשְׁתּ֑וּ (shall drink) כֹּ֝֗ל (all) רִשְׁעֵי־ (the wicked) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).

9  וַ֭אֲנִי (And I) אַגִּ֣יד (will declare it) לְעֹלָ֑ם (forever);

אֲ֝זַמְּרָ֗ה (I will make music) לֵאלֹהֵ֥י (to the God) יַעֲקֹֽב׃ (of Jacob).

10  וְכָל־ (And all) קַרְנֵ֣י (the horns) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (of the wicked) אֲגַדֵּ֑עַ (I will cut off);

תְּ֝רוֹמַ֗מְנָה (will be exalted) קַֽרְנ֥וֹת (the horns) צַדִּֽיק׃ (of the righteous).
