Better Is One Day in Your Courts
(John 1:14–18)

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ (For the one directing). עַֽל־ (According to) הַגִּתִּ֑ית (Gittith). לִבְנֵי־ (Of the sons) קֹ֥רַח (of Korah) מִזְמֽוֹר׃ (a Psalm).

1מַה־ (How) יְּדִיד֥וֹת (lovely) מִשְׁכְּנוֹתֶ֗יךָ (is Your dwelling place),

יְהוָ֥ה (O YHWH) צְבָאֽוֹת׃ (of hosts)!

2  נִכְסְפָ֬ה (Longs), וְגַם־ (even) כָּלְתָ֨ה׀ (faints) נַפְשִׁי֮ (My soul)

לְחַצְר֪וֹת (for the courts) יְה֫וָ֥ה (of YHWH);

לִבִּ֥י (my heart) וּבְשָׂרִ֑י (and my flesh) יְ֝רַנְּנ֗וּ (cry out)

אֶ֣ל (to) אֵֽל־ (the God) חָֽי׃ (living).

3  גַּם־ (Even) צִפּ֨וֹר׀ (the sparrow) מָ֪צְאָה (finds) בַ֡יִת (a home),

וּדְר֤וֹר׀ (and the swallow) קֵ֥ן (a nest) לָהּ֮ (for herself),

אֲשֶׁר־ (where) שָׁ֪תָה (she places) אֶפְרֹ֫חֶ֥יהָ (her young)

אֶֽת־ (near) מִ֭זְבְּחוֹתֶיךָ (Your altars),

יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (hosts), מַ֝לְכִּ֗י (my King) וֵאלֹהָֽי׃ (and My God).

4  אַ֭שְׁרֵי (Blessed are) יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י (those dwelling) בֵיתֶ֑ךָ (in Your house)!

ע֝֗וֹד (Ever) יְֽהַלְל֥וּךָ (they are praising You).

סֶּֽלָה׃ (Selah)

5  אַשְׁרֵ֣י (blessed is) אָ֭דָם (the man) עֽוֹז־ (the strength) ל֥וֹ (of him) בָ֑ךְ (is in You),

מְ֝סִלּ֗וֹת (highways) בִּלְבָבָֽם׃ (are in their heart).

6  עֹבְרֵ֤י׀ (Passing through) בְּעֵ֣מֶק (the Valley) הַ֭בָּכָא (of Baca),

מַעְיָ֣ן (a spring) יְשִׁית֑וּהוּ (they make it),

גַּם־ (even) בְּ֝רָכ֗וֹת (with blessings) יַעְטֶ֥ה (covers it) מוֹרֶֽה׃ (the early rain).

7  יֵ֭לְכוּ (They go) מֵחַ֣יִל (from strength) אֶל־ (to) חָ֑יִל (strength);

יֵרָאֶ֖ה (each appears) אֶל־ (before) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God) בְּצִיּֽוֹן׃ (in Zion).

8  יְה֘וָ֤ה (O YHWH) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God) צְ֭בָאוֹת (of Hosts), שִׁמְעָ֣ה (hear) תְפִלָּתִ֑י (my prayer);

הַאֲזִ֨ינָה (give ear), אֱלֹהֵ֖י (O God) יַעֲקֹ֣ב (of Jacob).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

9  מָ֭גִנֵּנוּ (Our shield) רְאֵ֣ה (see), אֱלֹהִ֑ים (O God),

וְ֝הַבֵּ֗ט (and look upon) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃ (of Your anointed).

10  כִּ֤י (For) טֽוֹב־ (better is) י֥וֹם (a day) בַּחֲצֵרֶ֗יךָ (in Your courts)

מֵ֫אָ֥לֶף (than a thousand).

בָּחַ֗רְתִּי (I would choose) הִ֭סְתּוֹפֵף (to stand at the entrance) בְּבֵ֣ית (in the house) אֱלֹהַ֑י (of my God),

מִ֝דּ֗וּר (than to dwell) בְּאָהֳלֵי־ (in the tents) רֶֽשַׁע׃ (of the wicked).

11  כִּ֤י (For) שֶׁ֨מֶשׁ׀ (a sun) וּמָגֵן֮ (and shield) יְהוָ֪ה (is YHWH) אֱלֹ֫הִ֥ים (God);

חֵ֣ן (favor) וְ֭כָבוֹד (and honor) יִתֵּ֣ן (will give) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH);

לֹ֥א (and not) יִמְנַע־ (will He withhold) ט֝֗וֹב (good)

לַֽהֹלְכִ֥ים (for those walking) בְּתָמִֽים׃ (with integrity).

12  יְהוָ֥ה (O YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (hosts),

אַֽשְׁרֵ֥י (blessed is) אָ֝דָ֗ם (the man) בֹּטֵ֥חַ (trusting) בָּֽךְ׃ (in You).
