O God, Be Not Silent

שִׁ֖יר (A song). מִזְמ֣וֹר (A Psalm) לְאָסָֽף׃ (of Asaph).

1אֱלֹהִ֥ים (O God), אַל־ (keep no) דֳּמִי־ (silence) לָ֑ךְ (to You); אַל־ (do not) תֶּחֱרַ֖שׁ (be silent),

וְאַל־ (and not) תִּשְׁקֹ֣ט (be still), אֵֽל׃ (O God).

2  כִּֽי־ (For) הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), א֭וֹיְבֶיךָ (Your enemies) יֶהֱמָי֑וּן (roar),

וּ֝מְשַׂנְאֶ֗יךָ (and those hating You) נָ֣שְׂאוּ (have lifted up) רֹֽאשׁ׃ (the head).

3  עַֽל־ (Against) עַ֭מְּךָ (Your people), יַעֲרִ֣ימוּ (they act with cunning) ס֑וֹד (counsel),

וְ֝יִתְיָעֲצ֗וּ (and they take counsel together) עַל־ (against) צְפוּנֶֽיךָ׃ (Your treasured ones).

4  אָמְר֗וּ (They say), לְ֭כוּ (Come), וְנַכְחִידֵ֣ם (and we shall make them disappear) מִגּ֑וֹי (as a nation),

וְלֹֽא־ (not) יִזָּכֵ֖ר (will be remembered) שֵֽׁם־ (and the name) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (of Israel) עֽוֹד׃ (anymore).

5  כִּ֤י (For) נוֹעֲצ֣וּ (they consulted) לֵ֣ב (in heart) יַחְדָּ֑ו (together);

עָ֝לֶ֗יךָ (against You) בְּרִ֣ית (an alliance) יִכְרֹֽתוּ׃ (they cut)—

6  אָהֳלֵ֣י (the tents) אֱ֭דוֹם (of Edom) וְיִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֗ים (and the Ishmaelites),

מוֹאָ֥ב (Moab) וְהַגְרִֽים׃ (and the Hagrites),

7  גְּבָ֣ל (Gebal), וְ֭עַמּוֹן (and Ammon), וַעֲמָלֵ֑ק (and Amalek),

פְּ֝לֶ֗שֶׁת (Philistia) עִם־ (with) יֹ֥שְׁבֵי (those dwelling in) צֽוֹר׃ (Tyre).

8  גַּם־ (Also) אַ֭שּׁוּר (Assyria) נִלְוָ֣ה (has joined) עִמָּ֑ם (with them);

הָ֤י֥וּ (they have become) זְר֖וֹעַ (an arm) לִבְנֵי־ (for the sons) ל֣וֹט (of Lot).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

9  עֲשֵֽׂה־ (may You do) לָהֶ֥ם (to them) כְּמִדְיָ֑ן (as to Midian),

כְּֽסִֽיסְרָ֥א (as to Sisera), כְ֝יָבִ֗ין (as to Jabin), בְּנַ֣חַל (at the River) קִישֽׁוֹן׃ (Kishon),

10  נִשְׁמְד֥וּ (They perished) בְֽעֵין־ (at En-) דֹּ֑אר (dor)

הָ֥יוּ (they became) דֹּ֝֗מֶן (dung) לָאֲדָמָֽה׃ (for the earth).

11  שִׁיתֵ֣מוֹ (Make) נְ֭דִיבֵמוֹ (their nobles) כְּעֹרֵ֣ב (like Oreb) וְכִזְאֵ֑ב (and like Zeeb),

וּֽכְזֶ֥בַח (and like Zebah) וּ֝כְצַלְמֻנָּ֗ע (and like Zalmunna), כָּל־ (all) נְסִיכֵֽמוֹ׃ (their princes)

12  אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) אָ֭מְרוּ (said), נִ֣ירֲשָׁה (Let us possess) לָּ֑נוּ (for ourselves) אֵ֝֗ת (-)

נְא֣וֹת (the pastures) אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of God).

13  אֱ‍ֽלֹהַ֗י (O my God), שִׁיתֵ֥מוֹ (set them) כַגַּלְגַּ֑ל (like the whirling dust),

כְּ֝קַ֗שׁ (like chaff) לִפְנֵי־ (before the face) רֽוּחַ׃ (of the wind).

14  כְּאֵ֥שׁ (As the fire) תִּבְעַר־ (burns) יָ֑עַר (a forest),

וּ֝כְלֶהָבָ֗ה (and as the flame) תְּלַהֵ֥ט (sets on fire) הָרִֽים׃ (the mountains),

15  כֵּ֭ן (so) תִּרְדְּפֵ֣ם (may You pursue them) בְּסַעֲרֶ֑ךָ (with Your tempest),

וּבְסוּפָתְךָ֥ (and with Your storm) תְבַהֲלֵֽם׃ (terrify them).

16  מַלֵּ֣א (Fill) פְנֵיהֶ֣ם (their faces) קָל֑וֹן (with shame),

וִֽיבַקְשׁ֖וּ (and they shall seek) שִׁמְךָ֣ (Your name), יְהוָֽה׃ (O YHWH).

17  יֵבֹ֖שׁוּ (Let them be put to shame) וְיִבָּהֲל֥וּ (and dismayed) עֲדֵי־ (forever) עַ֗ד (until),

וְֽיַחְפְּר֥וּ (and may they be ashamed) וְיֹאבֵֽדוּ׃ (and perish),

18  וְֽיֵדְע֗וּ (and they shall know) כִּֽי־ (that) אַתָּ֬ה (You),

שִׁמְךָ֣ (Your name) יְהוָ֣ה (is YHWH),

לְבַדֶּ֑ךָ (alone) עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן (are Most High) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).
