Matthew 21
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And when they drew near unto Jerusalem and came unto Bethphage unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2Saying to them, Go into the village that is in front of you, and directly you will find a donkey having been tied and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3And if anyone says anything to you, you will say, The Lord has need of them. And directly he will send them. 4And this happened so that that might be fulfilled having been spoken through the prophet, saying,

5Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, meek and mounted upon a donkey, even upon a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.

6And the disciples having gone and having done just as Jesus directed them, 7They brought the donkey and the colt and put their outer garments upon them and He sat on top of them. 8And most of the crowd spread their outer garments on (in) the road; and others were cutting off branches from the trees and were spreading them on the road.

9And the crowds going before Him and those following were crying out, saying, Hosanna (transliteration of the Hebrew/Aramaic for Oh, save now! Or Please, save!) to the Son of David! Blessed is the One coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

10And He having entered into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred up, saying, Who is this? 11And the crowds said, This is Jesus the prophet, the One from Nazareth of Galilee.

12And Jesus entered into the temple and cast out all those selling and buying in the temple and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling the doves. 13And He says to them, It has been written, My house will be called a house of prayer; however you have made it a den of robbers (those stealing in the open).

14And the blind and lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15And the chief priests and scribes having seen the wonders that He did, and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were indignant, 16And said to Him, Do You hear what these say? And Jesus says to them, Yes, have you never read, From out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise? 17And having left them, He went outside the city unto Bethany and spent the night (pass the night in the open air) there.

18And in the morning, having come back into the city, He became hungry, 19And having seen one fig tree upon the way, He came upon it and found nothing in it, except only leaves. And He says to it, Let there never be fruit from you any more unto the age. And instantly the fig tree withered (dried up).

20And the disciples having seen it marveled, saying, How did the fig tree wither instantly? 21And answering, Jesus said to them, Truly, I say to you, If you have faith and do not doubt (vacillate in judging back and forth), not only will you do that [done] to the fig tree, but even if you should say to this mountain, Be you removed and thrown into the sea, it will happen. 22And all things as many as you might ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

23And He having come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him as He was teaching, saying, In what authority are You doing these things? And who gave this authority to You? 24And answering, Jesus said to them, I also will ask you one word, which if you tell Me, I also will tell you in what authority I do these things. 25The baptism of John, from where was it? From out of heaven or from out of men? And they dialogued among themselves, saying, If we should say, From out of heaven, He will say to us, Why then did you not believe him? 26And if we should say, From out of men, we fear the crowd; for all hold John as a prophet. 27And answering Jesus, they said, We do not know. And He said to them, Neither will I tell you in what authority I do these things.

28And what do you think? A man had two sons and having come to the first, he said, Child, go today, work in the vineyard. 29And he answering, said, I will not; however afterward, having repented (changed his mind, regretted), he went. 30And having come to the second, he said likewise. And answering he said, I will sir (lord), and he did not go. 31From out of the two which did the will of the father? They say, The first. Jesus says to them, Truly I say to you, that the tax collectors and the prostitutes go before you into the kingdom of God. 32For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, however the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him, and you, having seen, did not even repent afterwards to believe him.

33Hear another parable: There was a man, a master of a house, who planted a vineyard, and placed a fence around it, and dug a winepress in it, and built a tower, and rented it out to tenants (farmers, vinedressers), and left the country. 34And when the opportune time (season) of the fruits drew near, he sent his bond-servants to the tenants to receive his fruits. 35And the tenants took his bond-servants, they beat one, and killed one, and stoned one. 36Again he sent other bond-servants, more than the first, and they did to them likewise. 37And afterward, he sent to them his son, saying, They will respect my son. 38However the tenants having seen the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and possess his inheritance. 39And having taken him, they cast him outside the vineyard and killed him. 40When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to those tenants? 41They say to Him, Evil [men, wretches]- He will badly (sorely, miserable, evilly) destroy them, and he will rent out the vineyard to other tenants, who will give to him from the fruits in their seasons (opportune times).

42Jesus says to them, Have you never read in the Scriptures, The stone which those building rejected, this has become the head of the corner; this came about from the Lord and it is marvelous in our eyes?

43Because of this, I say to you, that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and it will be given to an ethnicity (nation) producing its fruits. 44And the one having fallen upon this stone will be pulverized; and upon whomever it shall fall it will crush him to powder.

45And the chief priests and the Pharisees having heard His parables, they knew that He spoke about them. 46And seeking to lay hold of Him, they feared the crowds, because they held Him as (unto) a prophet.
