1King Solomon reigned over all Israel,1King Solomon ruled over all Israel.

3Elihoreph and Ahijah the sons of Shisha, secretaries; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud, court historian;3Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, wrote down what happened. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was in charge of the records.
4Benaiah son of Jehoiada, in charge of the army; Zadok and Abiathar, priests;4Benaiah son of Jehoiada was commander of the army. Zadok and Abiathar were priests.
5Azariah son of Nathan, in charge of the deputies; Zabud son of Nathan, a priest and adviser to the king;5Azariah son of Nathan was supervisor of the district governors. Zabud son of Nathan was a priest and adviser to the king.
6Ahishar, in charge of the palace; and Adoniram son of Abda, in charge of forced labor.6Ahishar was supervisor of the palace. Adoniram son of Abda was supervisor of the work crews.
7Solomon had twelve deputies for all Israel. They provided food for the king and his household; each one made provision for one month out of the year.7Solomon had twelve district governors appointed throughout Israel who acquired supplies for the king and his palace. Each was responsible for one month in the year.
8These were their names: Ben-hur, in the hill country of Ephraim;8These were their names: Ben-Hur was in charge of the hill country of Ephraim.
9Ben-deker, in Makaz, Shaalbim, Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan;9Ben-Deker was in charge of Makaz, Shaalbim, Beth Shemesh, and Elon Beth Hanan.
10Ben-hesed, in Arubboth (he had Socoh and the whole land of Hepher);10Ben-Hesed was in charge of Arubboth; he controlled Socoh and all the territory of Hepher.
11Ben-abinadab, in all Naphath-dor (Taphath daughter of Solomon was his wife);11Ben-Abinadab was in charge of Naphath Dor. (He was married to Solomon's daughter Taphath.)
12Baana son of Ahilud, in Taanach, Megiddo, and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan below Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as the other side of Jokmeam;12Baana son of Ahilud was in charge of Taanach and Megiddo, as well as all of Beth Shan next to Zarethan below Jezreel, from Beth Shan to Abel Meholah and on past Jokmeam.
13Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gilead (he had the villages of Jair son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead, and he had the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars);13Ben-Geber was in charge of Ramoth Gilead; he controlled the tent villages of Jair son of Manasseh in Gilead, as well as the region of Argob in Bashan, including sixty large walled cities with bronze bars locking their gates.
14Ahinadab son of Iddo, in Mahanaim;14Ahinadab son of Iddo was in charge of Mahanaim.
15Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also had married a daughter of Solomon--Basemath);15Ahimaaz was in charge of Naphtali. (He married Solomon's daughter Basemath.)
16Baana son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth;16Baana son of Hushai was in charge of Asher and Aloth.
17Jehoshaphat son of Paruah, in Issachar;17Jehoshaphat son of Paruah was in charge of Issachar.
18Shimei son of Ela, in Benjamin;18Shimei son of Ela was in charge of Benjamin.
19Geber son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of King Sihon of the Amorites and of King Og of Bashan. There was one deputy in the land of Judah.19Geber son of Uri was in charge of the land of Gilead (the territory which had once belonged to King Sihon of the Amorites and to King Og of Bashan). He was sole governor of the area.
20Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea; they were eating, drinking, and rejoicing.20The people of Judah and Israel were as innumerable as the sand on the seashore; they had plenty to eat and drink and were happy.
21Solomon ruled all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines and as far as the border of Egypt. They offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.21Solomon ruled all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms paid tribute as Solomon's subjects throughout his lifetime.
22Solomon's provisions for one day were 150 bushels of fine flour and 300 bushels of meal,22Each day Solomon's royal court consumed thirty cors of finely milled flour, sixty cors of cereal,
23ten fattened cattle, twenty range cattle, and a hundred sheep and goats, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and pen-fed poultry,23ten calves fattened in the stall, twenty calves from the pasture, and a hundred sheep, not to mention rams, gazelles, deer, and well-fed birds.
24for he had dominion over everything west of the Euphrates from Tiphsah to Gaza and over all the kings west of the Euphrates. He had peace on all his surrounding borders.24His royal court was so large because he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River from Tiphsah to Gaza; he was at peace with all his neighbors.
25Throughout Solomon's reign, Judah and Israel lived in safety from Dan to Beer-sheba, each person under his own vine and his own fig tree.25All the people of Judah and Israel had security; everyone from Dan to Beer Sheba enjoyed the produce of their vines and fig trees throughout Solomon's lifetime.
26Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.26Solomon had 4,000 stalls for his chariot horses and 12,000 horses.
27Each of those deputies for a month in turn provided food for King Solomon and for everyone who came to King Solomon's table. They neglected nothing.27The district governors acquired supplies for King Solomon and all who ate in his royal palace. Each was responsible for one month in the year; they made sure nothing was lacking.
28Each man brought the barley and the straw for the chariot teams and the other horses to the required place according to his assignment.28Each one also brought to the assigned location his quota of barley and straw for the various horses.
29God gave Solomon wisdom, very great insight, and understanding as vast as the sand on the seashore.29God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment; the breadth of his understanding was as infinite as the sand on the seashore.
30Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.30Solomon was wiser than all the men of the east and all the sages of Egypt.
31He was wiser than anyone--wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, sons of Mahol. His reputation extended to all the surrounding nations.31He was wiser than any man, including Ethan the Ezrahite or Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol. He was famous in all the neighboring nations.
32Solomon spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs numbered 1,005.32He composed 3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs.
33He spoke about trees, from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing out of the wall. He also spoke about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.33He produced manuals on botany, describing every kind of plant, from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on walls. He also produced manuals on biology, describing animals, birds, insects, and fish.
34Emissaries of all peoples, sent by every king on earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to listen to Solomon's wisdom.34People from all nations came to hear Solomon's display of wisdom; they came from all the kings of the earth who heard about his wisdom.
