King James Bible | English Standard Version |
A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. | 1The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. |
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. | 2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. |
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. | 3Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest. |
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. | 4He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: |
Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. | 5“Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!” |
And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. | 6The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah |
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God. | 7“Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God. |
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me. | 8Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me. |
I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. | 9I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds. |
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. | 10For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. |
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. | 11I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. |
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. | 12“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine. |
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? | 13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? |
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: | 14Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, |
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. | 15and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” |
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? | 16But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips? |
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee. | 17For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you. |
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. | 18If you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you keep company with adulterers. |
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. | 19“You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit. |
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son. | 20You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son. |
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. | 21These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you. |
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. | 22“Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver! |
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. | 23The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!” |
