New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.1Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his loyal love endures!
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary2Let those delivered by the LORD speak out, those whom he delivered from the power of the enemy,
And gathered from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.3and gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south.
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert region; They did not find a way to an inhabited city.4They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road; they found no city in which to live.
They were hungry and thirsty; Their soul fainted within them.5They were hungry and thirsty; they fainted from exhaustion.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses.6They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
He led them also by a straight way, To go to an inhabited city.7He led them on a level road, that they might find a city in which to live.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!8Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.9For he has satisfied those who thirst, and those who hunger he has filled with food.
There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains,10They sat in utter darkness, bound in painful iron chains,
Because they had rebelled against the words of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High.11because they had rebelled against God's commands, and rejected the instructions of the sovereign king.
Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was none to help.12So he used suffering to humble them; they stumbled and no one helped them up.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.13They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart.14He brought them out of the utter darkness, and tore off their shackles.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!15Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
For He has shattered gates of bronze And cut bars of iron asunder.16For he shattered the bronze gates, and hacked through the iron bars.
Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.17They acted like fools in their rebellious ways, and suffered because of their sins.
Their soul abhorred all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death.18They lost their appetite for all food, and they drew near the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.19They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.20He sent them an assuring word and healed them; he rescued them from the pits where they were trapped.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!21Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing.22Let them present thank offerings, and loudly proclaim what he has done!
Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;23Some traveled on the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters.
They have seen the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep.24They witnessed the acts of the LORD, his amazing feats on the deep water.
For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.25He gave the order for a windstorm, and it stirred up the waves of the sea.
They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery.26They reached up to the sky, then dropped into the depths. The sailors' strength left them because the danger was so great.
They reeled and staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits' end.27They swayed and staggered like a drunk, and all their skill proved ineffective.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses.28They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.29He calmed the storm, and the waves grew silent.
Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven.30The sailors rejoiced because the waves grew quiet, and he led them to the harbor they desired.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!31Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
Let them extol Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders.32Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people! Let them praise him in the place where the leaders preside!
He changes rivers into a wilderness And springs of water into a thirsty ground;33He turned streams into a desert, springs of water into arid land,
A fruitful land into a salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.34and a fruitful land into a barren place, because of the sin of its inhabitants.
He changes a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water;35As for his people, he turned a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water.
And there He makes the hungry to dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city,36He allowed the hungry to settle there, and they established a city in which to live.
And sow fields and plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest.37They cultivated fields, and planted vineyards, which yielded a harvest of fruit.
Also He blesses them and they multiply greatly, And He does not let their cattle decrease.38He blessed them so that they became very numerous. He would not allow their cattle to decrease in number.
When they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, misery and sorrow,39As for their enemies, they decreased in number and were beaten down, because of painful distress and suffering.
He pours contempt upon princes And makes them wander in a pathless waste.40He would pour contempt upon princes, and he made them wander in a wasteland with no road.
But He sets the needy securely on high away from affliction, And makes his families like a flock.41Yet he protected the needy from oppression, and cared for his families like a flock of sheep.
The upright see it and are glad; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth.42When the godly see this, they rejoice, and every sinner shuts his mouth.
Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, And consider the lovingkindnesses of the LORD.43Whoever is wise, let him take note of these things! Let them consider the LORD's acts of loyal love!
