Psalm 90
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
A prayer of Moses, the man of God. O Lord, you have been our protector through all generations! 1Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!
Even before the mountains came into existence, or you brought the world into being, you were the eternal God. 2Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.
You make mankind return to the dust, and say, "Return, O people!" 3You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals!”
Yes, in your eyes a thousand years are like yesterday that quickly passes, or like one of the divisions of the nighttime. 4For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours.
You bring their lives to an end and they "fall asleep." In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up; 5You sweep people away like dreams that disappear. They are like grass that springs up in the morning.
in the morning it glistens and sprouts up; at evening time it withers and dries up. 6In the morning it blooms and flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered.
Yes, we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath. 7We wither beneath your anger; we are overwhelmed by your fury.
You are aware of our sins; you even know about our hidden sins. 8You spread out our sins before you— our secret sins—and you see them all.
Yes, throughout all our days we experience your raging fury; the years of our lives pass quickly, like a sigh. 9We live our lives beneath your wrath, ending our years with a groan.
The days of our lives add up to seventy years, or eighty, if one is especially strong. But even one's best years are marred by trouble and oppression. Yes, they pass quickly and we fly away. 10Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away.
Who can really fathom the intensity of your anger? Your raging fury causes people to fear you. 11Who can comprehend the power of your anger? Your wrath is as awesome as the fear you deserve.
So teach us to consider our mortality, so that we might live wisely. 12Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.
Turn back toward us, O LORD! How long must this suffering last? Have pity on your servants! 13O LORD, come back to us! How long will you delay? Take pity on your servants!
Satisfy us in the morning with your loyal love! Then we will shout for joy and be happy all our days! 14Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.
Make us happy in proportion to the days you have afflicted us, in proportion to the years we have experienced trouble! 15Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good.
May your servants see your work! May their sons see your majesty! 16Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory.
May our sovereign God extend his favor to us! Make our endeavors successful! Yes, make them successful! 17And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!
