| 12And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. | 12And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. |
| 13And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. | 13Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. |
| 14But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. | 14And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. |
| 15Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. | 15So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. |
| 16And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. | 16And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything. |
| 17“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! | 17“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! |

| 20“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. | 20And he arose and came to his father. | 22“But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. | 22But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. |
| 23And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; | 23And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. |

| 29So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. | 29but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. |
| 30But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’ | 30But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’ |
| 31“And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. | 31And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. |
| 32It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’ ” | 32It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’” |
