| 1Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work. Words of Encouragement | 1Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. |
| 2Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. | 2I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. |
| 3And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life. | 3And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. |
| 4Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! | 4Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. |
| 5Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. | 5Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. |
| 6Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. | 6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. |
| 7Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. | 7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. |
| 8And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. | 8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. |
| 9Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Paul’s Thanks for Their Gifts | 9Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. |
| 10How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. | 10But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. |
| 11Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. | 11Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. |
| 12I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. | 12I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. |
| 13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. | 13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. |
| 14Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. | 14Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. |
| 15As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. | 15Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. |
| 16Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. | 16For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. |
| 17I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness. | 17Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. |
| 18At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God. | 18But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. |
| 19And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. | 19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. |
| 20Now all glory to God our Father forever and ever! Amen. Paul’s Final Greetings | 20Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
| 21Give my greetings to each of God’s holy people—all who belong to Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you their greetings. | 21Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you. |
| 22And all the rest of God’s people send you greetings, too, especially those in Caesar’s household. | 22All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household. |
| 23May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. | 23The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. |
