1 Chronicles 7:29
And along the borders of Manasseh were Beth-shean, Taanach, Megiddo, and Dor, together with their villages. The descendants of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns.
And along the borders of Manasseh

Manasseh’s western inheritance lay north of Ephraim and included fertile valleys, major trade routes, and strategic approaches between the coastal plain and the Jordan Valley.

were Beth-shean, Taanach, Megiddo, and Dor,

These important Canaanite strongholds guarded the Jezreel Valley and surrounding routes. Israel did not initially drive out all the Canaanites from these cities (Joshua 17:11–13). Beth-shean later became the place where the Philistines displayed Saul’s body after his death (1 Samuel 31:10). Megiddo and Taanach commanded key military corridors, while Dor provided access to Mediterranean commerce. Megiddo’s location also stands behind the name Armageddon, “Mount Megiddo” (Revelation 16:16).

together with their villages.

The surrounding settlements supplied the cities with crops, labor, livestock, and trade. God’s inheritance included not merely fortified centers but the productive land and communities necessary for Israel’s life in the promised land.

The descendants of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns.

Joseph’s descendants, represented chiefly by Ephraim and Manasseh, occupied a prominent and fruitful region in fulfillment of Jacob’s blessing (Genesis 48:19–20; 49:22). Their presence testified to God’s faithfulness in bringing Jacob’s family from Egypt into a secure inheritance in Canaan.
