1 Chronicles 7:38
The sons of Jether: Jephunneh, Pispa, and Ara.
The sons of Jether:

Jether, whose name means “abundance” or “excellence,” belonged to the extended family of Asher, whose descendants were preserved among the tribal records of Israel. His household formed part of the lineage through which Asher’s inheritance and identity continued.

2Sa 17:25 Absalom had appointed Amasa over the army in place of Joab.…
Jdg 8:20 So he said to Jether, his firstborn, “Get up and kill them.”…

Jephunneh,

This Jephunneh is distinct from Caleb’s father. Though no narrative is attached to him, his name records a real member of the covenant community and a link in Asher’s family line.

Deu 1:36 except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it,…

Pispa,

Pispah is known only from this genealogy. His inclusion shows the care taken to preserve families whose faithfulness and place among God’s people were not measured by public prominence.

and Ara.

Ara, meaning “lion,” completes Jether’s recorded sons. These names contributed to the growth of Asher, a tribe later described as having many able men prepared for service in Israel.

Teaching Points
The Importance of Genealogy in Scripture
Genealogies in the Bible serve to connect individuals to the larger account of God's people. They remind us of the continuity of God's promises through generations.

Understanding Our Spiritual Heritage
Just as the Israelites valued their genealogical records, Christians are encouraged to understand their spiritual heritage, tracing back to the early church and the teachings of Christ.

The Role of Every Individual in God's Plan
Even those who are mentioned briefly, like Jephunneh, Pispah, and Ara, have a place in God's account. This reminds us that every believer has a role in the body of Christ.

Faithfulness Across Generations
The mention of multiple generations in genealogies underscores the importance of passing down faith and values from one generation to the next.

Chronicles
The comparative indifference with which Chronicles is regarded in modern times by all but professional scholars seems to have been shared by the ancient Jewish church. Though written by the same hand as wrote Ezra-Nehemiah, and forming, together with these books, a continuous history of Judah, it is placed after them in the Hebrew Bible, of which it forms the concluding book; and this no doubt points to the fact that it attained canonical distinction later than they.
