Abijam Reigns in Judah
(2 Chronicles 13:1–3)

1  וּבִשְׁנַת֙ (And in the year) שְׁמֹנֶ֣ה (eight) עֶשְׂרֵ֔ה (and tenth) לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (of King) יָרָבְעָ֣ם (Jeroboam) בֶּן־ (son) נְבָ֑ט (of Nebat), מָלַ֥ךְ (became king) אֲבִיָּ֖ם (Abijam) עַל־ (over) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (Judah). 2  שָׁלֹ֣שׁ (Three) שָׁנִ֔ים (years) מָלַ֖ךְ (he reigned) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem). וְשֵׁ֣ם (And the name) אִמּ֔וֹ (of his mother) מַעֲכָ֖ה (was Maacah), בַּת־ (daughter) אֲבִישָׁלֽוֹם׃ (of Abishalom).

3  וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ (And he walked) בְּכָל־ (in all) חַטֹּ֥אות (the sins) אָבִ֖יו (of his father), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) עָשָׂ֣ה (he had done) לְפָנָ֑יו (before his face), וְלֹא־ (and not) הָיָ֨ה (was) לְבָב֤וֹ (his heart) שָׁלֵם֙ (complete) עִם־ (with) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהָ֔יו (his God), כִּלְבַ֖ב (as was the heart) דָּוִ֥ד (of David) אָבִֽיו׃ (his father). 4  כִּ֚י (Nevertheless) לְמַ֣עַן (for sake) דָּוִ֔ד (of David) נָתַן֩ (gave) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהָ֥יו (his God) ל֛וֹ (to him) נִ֖יר (a lamp) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem), לְהָקִ֤ים (by setting up) אֶת־ (-) בְּנוֹ֙ (his son) אַחֲרָ֔יו (after him), וּֽלְהַעֲמִ֖יד (and by establishing) אֶת־ (-) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (Jerusalem), 5  אֲשֶׁ֨ר (in that) עָשָׂ֥ה (did) דָוִ֛ד (David) אֶת־ (-) הַיָּשָׁ֖ר (right) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) וְלֹֽא־ (and not) סָ֞ר (turned aside) מִכֹּ֣ל (from anything) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֗הוּ (He commanded him) כֹּ֚ל (all) יְמֵ֣י (the days) חַיָּ֔יו (of his life)— רַ֕ק (except) בִּדְבַ֖ר (in the matter) אוּרִיָּ֥ה (of Uriah) הַחִתִּֽי׃ (the Hittite).

6  וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה (And war) הָיְתָ֧ה (there was) בֵין־ (between) רְחַבְעָ֛ם (Rehoboam) וּבֵ֥ין (and between) יָרָבְעָ֖ם (Jeroboam) כָּל־ (all) יְמֵ֥י (the days) חַיָּֽיו׃ (of his life).

7  וְיֶ֨תֶר (And the rest) דִּבְרֵ֤י (of the acts) אֲבִיָּם֙ (of Abijam) וְכָל־ (and all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשָׂ֔ה (he did), הֲלֽוֹא־ (are not) הֵ֣ם (they) כְּתוּבִ֗ים (written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֛פֶר (the Book) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the Words) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the Days) לְמַלְכֵ֣י (of the Kings) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah)? וּמִלְחָמָ֥ה (And war) הָיְתָ֛ה (there was) בֵּ֥ין (between) אֲבִיָּ֖ם (Abijam) וּבֵ֥ין (and between) יָרָבְעָֽם׃ (Jeroboam).

8  וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב (And rested) אֲבִיָּם֙ (Abijam) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֔יו (his fathers), וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ (and they buried) אֹת֖וֹ (him) בְּעִ֣יר (in the City) דָּוִ֑ד (of David). וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (And reigned) אָסָ֥א (Asa) בְנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ (in his place).

Asa Reigns in Judah
(2 Chronicles 14:1–15; 2 Chronicles 15:8–19)

9  וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת (And in the year) עֶשְׂרִ֔ים (twentieth) לְיָרָבְעָ֖ם (of Jeroboam) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), מָלַ֥ךְ (began to reign) אָסָ֖א (Asa) מֶ֥לֶךְ (as king) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah). 10  וְאַרְבָּעִ֤ים (And forty) וְאַחַת֙ (and one) שָׁנָ֔ה (years) מָלַ֖ךְ (he reigned) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem). וְשֵׁ֣ם (And the name) אִמּ֔וֹ (of his mother) מַעֲכָ֖ה (was Maacah), בַּת־ (daughter) אֲבִישָׁלֽוֹם׃ (of Abishalom).

11  וַיַּ֧עַשׂ (And did) אָסָ֛א (Asa) הַיָּשָׁ֖ר (right) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כְּדָוִ֖ד (like David) אָבִֽיו׃ (his father). 12  וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר (And he banished) הַקְּדֵשִׁ֖ים (the male shrine prostitutes) מִן־ (from) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the land) וַיָּ֙סַר֙ (and he removed) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַגִּלֻּלִ֔ים (the idols) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) עָשׂ֖וּ (had made) אֲבֹתָֽיו׃ (his fathers). 13  וְגַ֣ם׀ (And) אֶת־ (-) מַעֲכָ֣ה (Maacah) אִמּ֗וֹ (his mother) וַיְסִרֶ֙הָ֙ (and he removed) מִגְּבִירָ֔ה (as queen mother), אֲשֶׁר־ (because) עָשְׂתָ֥ה (she had made) מִפְלֶ֖צֶת (an repulsive image) לָאֲשֵׁרָ֑ה (of Asherah). וַיִּכְרֹ֤ת (And cut down) אָסָא֙ (Asa) אֶת־ (-) מִפְלַצְתָּ֔הּ (the repulsive image) וַיִּשְׂרֹ֖ף (and burned it) בְּנַ֥חַל (in the Valley) קִדְרֽוֹן׃ (Kidron).

14  וְהַבָּמ֖וֹת (And the high places) לֹא־ (not) סָ֑רוּ (were removed); רַ֣ק (nevertheless) לְבַב־ (the heart) אָסָ֗א (of Asa) הָיָ֥ה (was) שָׁלֵ֛ם (completely) עִם־ (with) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) כָּל־ (all) יָמָֽיו׃ (his days). 15  וַיָּבֵא֙ (And He brought) אֶת־ (-) קָדְשֵׁ֣י (the holy things) אָבִ֔יו (of his father) וְקָדְשׁוֹ (and the holy things) בֵּ֣ית (for the house) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כֶּ֥סֶף (silver), וְזָהָ֖ב (and gold), וְכֵלִֽים׃ (and vessels).

War between Asa and Baasha
(2 Chronicles 16:1–6)

16  וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה (And war) הָיְתָ֜ה (there was) בֵּ֣ין (between) אָסָ֗א (Asa) וּבֵ֛ין (and between) בַּעְשָׁ֥א (Baasha) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) כָּל־ (all) יְמֵיהֶֽם׃ (their days). 17  וַיַּ֨עַל (And came up) בַּעְשָׁ֤א (Baasha) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) עַל־ (against) יְהוּדָ֔ה (Judah), וַיִּ֖בֶן (and he built up) אֶת־ (-) הָרָמָ֑ה (Ramah), לְבִלְתִּ֗י (that none) תֵּ֚ת (he might let) יֹצֵ֣א (go out) וָבָ֔א (or come in) לְאָסָ֖א (to Asa) מֶ֥לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah).

18  וַיִּקַּ֣ח (And took) אָ֠סָא (Asa) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַכֶּ֨סֶף (the silver) וְהַזָּהָ֜ב (and the gold) הַֽנּוֹתָרִ֣ים׀ (that remained) בְּאוֹצְר֣וֹת (in the treasuries) בֵּית־ (of the house) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH) וְאֶת־ (and) אֽוֹצְרוֹת֙ (the treasuries) בֵּ֣ית (of house) מֶלֶךְ (of the king), וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם (and he gave them) בְּיַד־ (into the hand) עֲבָדָ֑יו (of his servants). וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֞ם (And sent them) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (King) אָסָ֗א (Asa) אֶל־ (to) בֶּן־ (Ben-) הֲ֠דַד (hadad), בֶּן־ (son) טַבְרִמֹּ֤ן (of Tabrimmon), בֶּן־ (son) חֶזְיוֹן֙ (of Hezion), מֶ֣לֶךְ (King) אֲרָ֔ם (of Aram), הַיֹּשֵׁ֥ב (who dwelt) בְּדַמֶּ֖שֶׂק (in Damascus), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 19  בְּרִית֙ (A covenant) בֵּינִ֣י (be between me) וּבֵינֶ֔ךָ (and between you), בֵּ֥ין (as there was between) אָבִ֖י (my father) וּבֵ֣ין (and between) אָבִ֑יךָ (your father). הִנֵּה֩ (Behold), שָׁלַ֨חְתִּֽי (I have sent) לְךָ֥ (to you) שֹׁ֙חַד֙ (a present) כֶּ֣סֶף (of silver) וְזָהָ֔ב (and gold). לֵ֣ךְ (Go), הָפֵ֗רָה (break) אֶת־ (-) בְּרִֽיתְךָ֙ (your covenant) אֶת־ (with) בַּעְשָׁ֣א (Baasha) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), וְיַעֲלֶ֖ה (so that he will go up) מֵעָלָֽי׃ (from me).

20  וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע (And listened) בֶּן־ (Ben-) הֲדַ֜ד (hadad) אֶל־ (to) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (King) אָסָ֗א (Asa), וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח (and he sent) אֶת־ (-) שָׂרֵ֨י (the captains) הַחֲיָלִ֤ים (of armies) אֲשֶׁר־ (who were) לוֹ֙ (unto him) עַל־ (against) עָרֵ֣י (the cities) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel). וַיַּךְ֙ (And he struck) אֶת־ (-) עִיּ֣וֹן (Ijon), וְאֶת־ (and) דָּ֔ן (Dan), וְאֵ֖ת (and) אָבֵ֣ל (Abel-) בֵּֽית־ (beth-) מַעֲכָ֑ה (maacah), וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) כִּנְר֔וֹת (Chinnereth), עַ֖ל (besides) כָּל־ (all) אֶ֥רֶץ (the land) נַפְתָּלִֽי׃ (of Naphtali).

21  וַֽיְהִי֙ (And it came to pass) כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ (when heard it) בַּעְשָׁ֔א (Baasha), וַיֶּחְדַּ֕ל (that he stopped) מִבְּנ֖וֹת (building) אֶת־ (-) הָֽרָמָ֑ה (Ramah) וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב (and he dwelt) בְּתִרְצָֽה׃ (in Tirzah). 22  וְהַמֶּ֨לֶךְ (And King) אָסָ֜א (Asa) הִשְׁמִ֤יעַ (caused to hear) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah)— אֵ֣ין (none) נָקִ֔י (was exempt)— וַיִּשְׂא֞וּ (and they took away) אֶת־ (-) אַבְנֵ֤י (the stones) הָֽרָמָה֙ (of Ramah), וְאֶת־ (and) עֵצֶ֔יהָ (the timbers) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) בָּנָ֖ה (had used for building) בַּעְשָׁ֑א (Baasha), וַיִּ֤בֶן (and built) בָּם֙ (with them) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (King) אָסָ֔א (Asa) אֶת־ (-) גֶּ֥בַע (Geba) בִּנְיָמִ֖ן (of Benjamin), וְאֶת־ (and) הַמִּצְפָּֽה׃ (Mizpah).

Jehoshaphat Succeeds Asa
(2 Chronicles 17:1–19)

23  וְיֶ֣תֶר (And the rest) כָּל־ (of all) דִּבְרֵֽי־ (the acts) אָ֠סָא (of Asa), וְכָל־ (and all) גְּב֨וּרָת֜וֹ (his might), וְכָל־ (and all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשָׂ֗ה (he did), וְהֶֽעָרִים֙ (and the cities) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) בָּנָ֔ה (he built), הֲלֹֽא־ (are not) הֵ֣מָּה (they) כְתוּבִ֗ים (written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֛פֶר (the Book) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the Words) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the Days) לְמַלְכֵ֣י (of the Kings) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah)? רַ֚ק (But) לְעֵ֣ת (in the time) זִקְנָת֔וֹ (of his old age) חָלָ֖ה (he was diseased) אֶת־ (-) רַגְלָֽיו׃ (in his feet).

24  וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב (And rested) אָסָא֙ (Asa) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֔יו (his fathers) וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ (and he was buried) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֔יו (his fathers) בְּעִ֖יר (in the City) דָּוִ֣ד (of David) אָבִ֑יו (his father). וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (And reigned) יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט (Jehoshaphat) בְּנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ (in his place).

Nadab Reigns in Israel

25  וְנָדָ֣ב (And Nadab) בֶּן־ (son) יָרָבְעָ֗ם (of Jeroboam) מָלַךְ֙ (became king) עַל־ (over) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel) בִּשְׁנַ֣ת (in the year) שְׁתַּ֔יִם (second) לְאָסָ֖א (of Asa) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ (and he reigned) עַל־ (over) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (Israel) שְׁנָתָֽיִם׃ (two years). 26  וַיַּ֥עַשׂ (And he did) הָרַ֖ע (evil) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ (and he walked) בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ (in the way) אָבִ֔יו (of his father) וּ֨בְחַטָּאת֔וֹ (and in his sin), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (by which) הֶחֱטִ֖יא (he had caused to sin) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel).

27  וַיִּקְשֹׁ֨ר (And conspired) עָלָ֜יו (against him) בַּעְשָׁ֤א (Baasha) בֶן־ (son) אֲחִיָּה֙ (of Ahijah), לְבֵ֣ית (of the house) יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר (of Issachar), וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ (and struck him down) בַעְשָׁ֔א (Baasha) בְּגִבְּת֖וֹן (at Gibbethon), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which was) לַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים (of the Philistines). וְנָדָב֙ (And Nadab) וְכָל־ (and all) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel) צָרִ֖ים (laid siege) עַֽל־ (to) גִּבְּתֽוֹן׃ (Gibbethon). 28  וַיְמִתֵ֣הוּ (And killed him) בַעְשָׁ֔א (Baasha) בִּשְׁנַ֣ת (in year) שָׁלֹ֔שׁ (the third) לְאָסָ֖א (of Asa) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ (and he reigned) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ (in his place).

29  וַיְהִ֣י (And it came to pass) כְמָלְכ֗וֹ (in his reigning), הִכָּה֙ (that he struck down) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) בֵּ֣ית (the house) יָרָבְעָ֔ם (of Jeroboam). לֹֽא־ (Not) הִשְׁאִ֧יר (he did leave) כָּל־ (anyone) נְשָׁמָ֛ה (that breathed) לְיָרָבְעָ֖ם (to Jeroboam), עַד־ (until) הִשְׁמִד֑וֹ (He had destroyed him) כִּדְבַ֣ר (according to the word) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) דִּבֶּ֔ר (He had spoken) בְּיַד־ (by) עַבְדּ֖וֹ (His servant) אֲחִיָּ֥ה (Ahijah) הַשִּׁילֹנִֽי׃ (the Shilonite), 30  עַל־ (on account) חַטֹּ֤אות (of the sins) יָרָבְעָם֙ (of Jeroboam) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) חָטָ֔א (he had sinned), וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר (and by which) הֶחֱטִ֖יא (he had caused to sin) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel) בְּכַעְס֕וֹ (by his provocation) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (with which) הִכְעִ֔יס (he provoked to anger) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֥י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

31  וְיֶ֛תֶר (And the rest) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the acts) נָדָ֖ב (of Nadab) וְכָל־ (and all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשָׂ֑ה (he did), הֲלֹא־ (are not) הֵ֣ם (they) כְּתוּבִ֗ים (written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֛פֶר (the Book) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the Words) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the Days) לְמַלְכֵ֥י (of the Kings) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel)? 32  וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה (And war) הָיְתָ֜ה (there was) בֵּ֣ין (between) אָסָ֗א (Asa) וּבֵ֛ין (and between) בַּעְשָׁ֥א (Baasha) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) כָּל־ (all) יְמֵיהֶֽם׃פ (their days).

Baasha Reigns in Israel

33  בִּשְׁנַ֣ת (In year) שָׁלֹ֔שׁ (the third) לְאָסָ֖א (of Asa) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), מָ֠לַךְ (became king) בַּעְשָׁ֨א (Baasha) בֶן־ (son) אֲחִיָּ֤ה (of Ahijah) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (Israel) בְּתִרְצָ֔ה (in Tirzah), עֶשְׂרִ֥ים (for twenty) וְאַרְבַּ֖ע (and four) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years).

34  וַיַּ֥עַשׂ (And he did) הָרַ֖ע (evil) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ (and he walked) בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ (in the way) יָרָבְעָ֔ם (of Jeroboam) וּ֨בְחַטָּאת֔וֹ (and in his sin), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (by which) הֶחֱטִ֖יא (he had caused to sin) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס (Israel).
