After the Battle
(Proverbs 21:1–31)

לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ (For the one directing). מִזְמ֥וֹר (A Psalm) לְדָוִֽד׃ (of David).

1יְֽהוָ֗ה (O YHWH), בְּעָזְּךָ֥ (in Your strength) יִשְׂמַח־ (rejoices) מֶ֑לֶךְ (the king)!

וּ֝בִישׁ֥וּעָתְךָ֗ (And in Your salvation) מַה־ (how) מְאֹֽד׃ (greatly) יָּ֥גֶיל (he exults)!

2  תַּאֲוַ֣ת (The desire) לִ֭בּוֹ (of his heart) נָתַ֣תָּה (You have given) לּ֑וֹ (to him),

וַאֲרֶ֥שֶׁת (and the request) שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו (of his lips) בַּל־ (not) מָנַ֥עְתָּ (have You withheld).

סֶּֽלָה׃ (Selah)

3  כִּֽי־ (for) תְ֭קַדְּמֶנּוּ (You put before him) בִּרְכ֣וֹת (the blessings) ט֑וֹב (of goodness);

תָּשִׁ֥ית (You set) לְ֝רֹאשׁ֗וֹ (upon his head) עֲטֶ֣רֶת (a crown) פָּֽז׃ (of pure gold).

4  חַיִּ֤ים׀ (Life) שָׁאַ֣ל (he has asked) מִ֭מְּךָ (from You); נָתַ֣תָּה (and You gave it) לּ֑וֹ (to him)—

אֹ֥רֶךְ (length) יָ֝מִ֗ים (of days) עוֹלָ֥ם (forever) וָעֶֽד׃ (and ever).

5  גָּד֣וֹל (Great is) כְּ֭בוֹדוֹ (His glory) בִּישׁוּעָתֶ֑ךָ (in Your salvation);

ה֥וֹד (splendor) וְ֝הָדָר (and majesty) תְּשַׁוֶּ֥ה (You have placed) עָלָֽיו׃ (upon him).

6  כִּֽי־ (For) תְשִׁיתֵ֣הוּ (You set for him) בְרָכ֣וֹת (blessings) לָעַ֑ד (forever);

תְּחַדֵּ֥הוּ (You make him rejoice) בְ֝שִׂמְחָ֗ה (with gladness) אֶת־ (before) פָּנֶֽיךָ׃ (Your face).

7  כִּֽי־ (For) הַ֭מֶּלֶךְ (the king) בֹּטֵ֣חַ (trusts) בַּיהוָ֑ה (in YHWH),

וּבְחֶ֥סֶד (and in the loving devotion) עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן (of the Most High)

בַּל־ (not) יִמּֽוֹט׃ (he shall be shaken).

8  תִּמְצָ֣א (Will find) יָ֭דְךָ (Your hand) לְכָל־ (all) אֹיְבֶ֑יךָ (Your enemies);

יְ֝מִֽינְךָ (Your right hand) תִּמְצָ֥א (will find) שֹׂנְאֶֽיךָ׃ (those hating You).

9  תְּשִׁיתֵ֤מוֹ׀ (You will place them) כְּתַנּ֥וּר (as in a furnace) אֵשׁ֮ (of fire)

לְעֵ֪ת (at the time) פָּ֫נֶ֥יךָ (of Your presence);

יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) בְּאַפּ֣וֹ (in His anger) יְבַלְּעֵ֑ם (will swallow them up),

וְֽתֹאכְלֵ֥ם (and will devour them) אֵֽשׁ׃ (the fire).

10  פִּ֭רְיָמוֹ (Their fruit) מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the earth) תְּאַבֵּ֑ד (You will destroy),

וְ֝זַרְעָ֗ם (and their seed) מִבְּנֵ֥י (from among the sons) אָדָֽם׃ (of men).

11  כִּי־ (For) נָט֣וּ (they stretched out) עָלֶ֣יךָ (against you) רָעָ֑ה (for evil);

חָֽשְׁב֥וּ (they devised) מְ֝זִמָּ֗ה (a plot); בַּל־ (not) יוּכָֽלוּ׃ (will they prevail).

12  כִּ֭י (For) תְּשִׁיתֵ֣מוֹ (You set them) שֶׁ֑כֶם (to the shoulder);

בְּ֝מֵֽיתָרֶ֗יךָ (Your bowstrings) תְּכוֹנֵ֥ן (You prepare) עַל־ (against) פְּנֵיהֶֽם׃ (their faces).

13  ר֣וּמָה (Be exalted), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH), בְּעֻזֶּ֑ךָ (in Your strength);

נָשִׁ֥ירָה (we will sing) וּֽ֝נְזַמְּרָה (and praise) גְּבוּרָתֶֽךָ׃ (Your might).
