Luke 21
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And having looked up, He saw the rich casting their gifts into the treasury; 2And He saw a certain poor (needy, one that works for their daily need) widow casting in there two lepta (small very low value copper coin). 3And He said, Truly (Of truth) I say to you, that this poor (beggarly, destitute) widow cast in more than all; 4For all these cast in gifts from out of that which was abounding; however she from out of her poverty cast in all the livelihood that she had.

5And as some were speaking about the temple, that it was adorned with goodly (beautiful, greek-kalios) stones and consecrated offerings, He said, 6These things which you are beholding, Days will come in which there will not be left (same word for remit) stone upon stone {here} which will not be thrown down.

7And they asked Him, saying, Teacher, when then will these things be, and what is the sign when these things are about to happen? 8And He said, Take heed (see) lest you be led astray; for many will come upon My name, saying, I am [he], and the time (opportune/fitting time) is drawn near. Do not go after (behind) them. 9And when you should hear of wars and instabilities (not-down-standing or not standing down, disturbances, commotions, uprisings, insurrections, latin-seditiones), do not be terrified; for it is necessary for these things to first happen, but the end is not directly (at once, immediately).

10Then He was saying to them, Ethnicity (nation) will rise up (awaken, arouse) against (upon) ethnicity (nation), and kingdom against (upon) kingdom; 11Great earthquakes, and in places by places (kai kata topous) famines and epidemics (pestilences, pesty things like diseases, plagues, and such, latin-pestilantiae-epidemics). There will be fearful sights (causes of terror, terrors) and there also will be great signs from (away from) heaven.

12However (and) before all these things, they will throw their hands upon you and will persecute you, handing you over unto the synagogues and prisons, taking (leading) you away before (upon) kings and governors, on account of (for the sake of) My name. 13It will result to you unto a testimony. 14Set (Place, Put, Lay) therefore in your hearts not to premeditate to make a defense; 15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of all those opposing you will be able to resist (stand against, oppose, withstand), nor speak opposition against. 16And you will be betrayed (handed over) even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends; and they will put to death [some] from among you. 17And you will be hated (detested) by all because of My name. 18And a hair of your head should not perish. 19In your endurance you will acquire (gain, get) your lives (souls).

20And when you see Jerusalem being encircled by (under) armies (encamped military), then know that her desolation (close to the word for wilderness/ desert/ desolate place) has drawn near. 21Then those in Judea, let them flee unto the mountains; and those in her midst (middle), let them depart out; and those in the countries (regions), do not let them enter into her; 22Because these are days of avenging, all things having been written are to be accomplished (fulfilled). 23But woe to those having [a child] in the womb, and to those nursing in those days; for there will be great distress (necessity, constraint, a pressing situation, latin-pressura-pressure) upon the land and wrath to this people. 24And they will fall by the mouth of the sword (slaughter-dagger) and will be led captive into all the nations (ethnicities); and Jerusalem will be tread on (trampled) by the ethnicities (nations) until the times of the ethnicities (nations) be fulfilled.

25And there will be signs in the sun, and moon, and stars; and upon the earth distress (tension from difficult circumstances) of ethnicities (nations) with perplexity (to be at a loss because of difficulties), the roaring (noise, sound) of the sea and tossing of the sea in a tempest, 26And men are fainting (losing morale, losing soul/breathe, dismaying) from fear and expectation of that which is coming upon the inhabited world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken (agitated, latin-movebuntur-moved). 27And then (at that time) they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and much glory. 28And these when things begin (commence) to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.

29And He spoke a parable to them: Behold the fig tree and all the trees: 30When they already sprout (throw before), looking at them of (away from) yourselves, you know that summer is already near. 31So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32Truly I say to you, that this generation will not have passed away until all things shall have happened. 33The heaven and the earth will pass away, however My words will not pass away.

34And take heed to yourselves, lest ever your hearts be weighed down (burdened) with drunken dissipation (kraipale, drunken nausea, what seizes you from drunkenness, a headache from drunkenness, latin-crapula-carousing root is reeling) and drunkenness, and cares (anxieties) of life; and that there day would come (befall, stand, set) upon you suddenly (unexpectedly); 35For like as a snare it will come upon all those sitting upon all the surface (face) of the earth. 36And watch in every season (opportune/fitting time), appealing that you might have strength to escape all these things that are about to happen and to stand before the Son of Man.

37And by day He was day teaching in the temple and by night, going out, he lodged on the mount called Olivet. 38And all the people came early in the morning to Him in the temple to hear Him.
