And if I have extorted anything from anyone, I'll pay back four times as much!" |
| 9Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham. | 9"Today salvation has come to this house," Jesus told him, "because he too is a son of Abraham. |

| 13Beforehand, he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Conduct business with this until I return,’ he said. | 13He called 10 of his slaves, gave them 10 minas, and told them, Engage in business until I come back.' |
| 14But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ | 14"But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, We don't want this man to rule over us!' |
| 15When he returned from procuring his kingship, he summoned the servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what each one had earned. | 15"At his return, having received the authority to be king, he summoned those slaves he had given the money to, so he could find out how much they had made in business. |
| 16The first servant came forward and said, ‘Master, your mina has produced ten more minas.’ | 16The first came forward and said, Master, your mina has earned 10 more minas.' |

| 18The second servant came and said, ‘Master, your mina has made five minas.’ | 18"The second came and said, Master, your mina has made five minas.' |

| 21For I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man. You withdraw what you did not deposit and reap what you did not sow.’ | 21because I was afraid of you, for you're a tough man: you collect what you didn't deposit and reap what you didn't sow.' |
| 22His master replied, ‘You wicked servant, I will judge you by your own words. So you knew that I am a harsh man, withdrawing what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow? | 22"He told him, I will judge you by what you have said, you evil slave! If you knew I was a tough man, collecting what I didn't deposit and reaping what I didn't sow, |
| 23Why then did you not deposit my money in the bank, and upon my return I could have collected it with interest?’ | 23why didn't you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest!' |
| 24Then he told those standing by, ‘Take the mina from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’ | 24So he said to those standing there, Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has 10 minas.' |
| 25‘Master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’ | 25"But they said to him, Master, he has 10 minas.' |
| 26He replied, ‘I tell you that everyone who has will be given more; but the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. | 26"I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away. |
| 27And these enemies of mine who were unwilling for me to rule over them, bring them here and slay them in front of me.’ ” | 27But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.'" |

| 32So those who were sent went out and found it just as Jesus had told them. | 32So those who were sent left and found it just as He had told them. |

| 34“The Lord needs it,” they answered. | 34The Lord needs it," they said. |
| 35Then they led the colt to Jesus, threw their cloaks over it, and put Jesus on it. | 35Then they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their robes on the donkey, they helped Jesus get on it. |

| 37And as He approached the descent from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of disciples began to praise God joyfully in a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen: | 37Now He came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen: |
| 38“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” | 38The King who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven! |
| 39But some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!” | 39Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." |
| 40“I tell you,” He answered, “if they remain silent, the very stones will cry out.” | 40He answered, "I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out!" |

| 45Then Jesus entered the temple courts and began to drive out those who were selling there. | 45He went into the temple complex and began to throw out those who were selling, |
| 46He declared to them, “It is written: ‘My house will be a house of prayer.’ But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’ ” | 46and He said, "It is written, My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves!" |
| 47Jesus was teaching at the temple every day, but the chief priests, scribes, and leaders of the people were intent on killing Him. | 47Every day He was teaching in the temple complex. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to destroy Him, |
| 48Yet they could not find a way to do so, because all the people hung on His words. | 48but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people were captivated by what they heard. |
