HCSB Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
As He was going out of the temple complex, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher, look! What massive stones! What impressive buildings!" 1As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!"
Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down!" 2And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down."
While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives across from the temple complex, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, "3As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately,
Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign when all these things are about to take place?" 4"Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?"
Then Jesus began by telling them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5And Jesus began to say to them, "See to it that no one misleads you.
Many will come in My name, saying, I am He,' and they will deceive many. 6"Many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and will mislead many.
When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don't be alarmed; these things must take place, but the end is not yet. 7"When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.
For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. 8"For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.
"But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to sanhedrins, and you will be flogged in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of Me, as a witness to them.9"But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.
And the good news must first be proclaimed to all nations. 10"The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
So when they arrest you and hand you over, don't worry beforehand what you will say. On the contrary, whatever is given to you in that hour--say it. For it isn't you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. 11"When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.
Then brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise up against parents and put them to death. 12"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.
And you will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. 13"You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
"When you see the abomination that causes desolation standing where it should not" (let the reader understand), "then those in Judea must flee to the mountains! 14"But when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
A man on the housetop must not come down or go in to get anything out of his house.15"The one who is on the housetop must not go down, or go in to get anything out of his house;
And a man in the field must not go back to get his clothes.16and the one who is in the field must not turn back to get his coat.
Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days! 17"But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
Pray it won't happen in winter. 18"But pray that it may not happen in the winter.
For those will be days of tribulation, the kind that hasn't been from the beginning of the world, which God created, until now and never will be again!19"For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will.
Unless the Lord limited those days, no one would survive. But He limited those days because of the elect, whom He chose. 20"Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
"Then if anyone tells you, Look, here is the Messiah! Look--there!' do not believe it!21"And then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ'; or, 'Behold, He is there'; do not believe him;
For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and will perform signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 22for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
And you must watch! I have told you everything in advance. 23"But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance.
"But in those days, after that tribulation: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; 24"But in those days, after that tribulation, THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT,
the stars will be falling from the sky, and the celestial powers will be shaken. 25AND THE STARS WILL BE FALLING from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.26"Then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS with great power and glory.
He will send out the angels and gather His elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of the sky. 27"And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.
"Learn this parable from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.28"Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.
In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that He is near--at the door! 29"Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door.
I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place. 30"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. 31"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
"Now concerning that day or hour no one knows--neither the angels in heaven nor the Son--except the Father.32"But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
Watch! Be alert! For you don't know when the time is coming. 33"Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.
It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his slaves, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert. 34"It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
Therefore be alert, since you don't know when the master of the house is coming--whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning. 35"Therefore, be on the alert-- for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning--
Otherwise, he might come suddenly and find you sleeping.36in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep.
And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Be alert!" 37"What I say to you I say to all, 'Be on the alert!'"
