Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.1About the times and the seasons: Brothers and sisters, you do not need anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.2For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.3When they say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, for this day to surprise you like a thief.
for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;5For you are all children of light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.
so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.6So then, let us not sleep, like the rest, but let us stay awake and be self-controlled.
For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.8But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled and put on the armor of faith and love, and a helmet of the hope of salvation.
For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,12Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you,
and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.13and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.14And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.15See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.
Rejoice always;16Rejoice always,
pray without ceasing;17pray constantly,
in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.18give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit;19Don't stifle the Spirit.
do not despise prophetic utterances.20Don't despise prophecies,
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;21but test all things. Hold on to what is good.
abstain from every form of evil.22Stay away from every kind of evil.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.24He who calls you is faithful; he will do it.
Brethren, pray for us.25Brothers and sisters, pray for us also.
Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.26Greet all the brothers and sisters with a holy kiss.
I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.27I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brothers and sisters.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
