 | 1Praise the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are magnificent. You are robed in splendor and majesty. | 1Let all that I am praise the LORD. O LORD my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty. |
| 2He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain, | 2You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens; |
| 3and lays the beams of the upper rooms of his palace on the rain clouds. He makes the clouds his chariot, and travels along on the wings of the wind. | 3you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds your chariot; you ride upon the wings of the wind. |
| 4He makes the winds his messengers, and the flaming fire his attendant. | 4The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants. |
| 5He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be upended. | 5You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved. |
| 6The watery deep covered it like a garment; the waters reached above the mountains. | 6You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains. |
| 7Your shout made the waters retreat; at the sound of your thunderous voice they hurried off-- | 7At your command, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away. |
| 8as the mountains rose up, and the valleys went down--to the place you appointed for them. | 8Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed. |
| 9You set up a boundary for them that they could not cross, so that they would not cover the earth again. | 9Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth. |
| 10He turns springs into streams; they flow between the mountains. | 10You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains. |
| 11They provide water for all the animals in the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. | 11They provide water for all the animals, and the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
| 12The birds of the sky live beside them; they chirp among the bushes. | 12The birds nest beside the streams and sing among the branches of the trees. |
| 13He waters the mountains from the upper rooms of his palace; the earth is full of the fruit you cause to grow. | 13You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor. |
| 14He provides grass for the cattle, and crops for people to cultivate, so they can produce food from the ground, | 14You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth— |
| 15as well as wine that makes people feel so good, and so they can have oil to make their faces shine, as well as food that sustains people's lives. | 15wine to make them glad, olive oil to soothe their skin, and bread to give them strength. |
| 16The trees of the LORD receive all the rain they need, the cedars of Lebanon which he planted, | 16The trees of the LORD are well cared for— the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. |
| 17where the birds make nests, near the evergreens in which the herons live. | 17There the birds make their nests, and the storks make their homes in the cypresses. |
| 18The wild goats live in the high mountains; the rock badgers find safety in the cliffs. | 18High in the mountains live the wild goats, and the rocks form a refuge for the hyraxes. |
| 19He made the moon to mark the months, and the sun sets according to a regular schedule. | 19You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set. |
| 20You make it dark and night comes, during which all the beasts of the forest prowl around. | 20You send the darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals prowl about. |
| 21The lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God. | 21Then the young lions roar for their prey, stalking the food provided by God. |
| 22When the sun rises, they withdraw and sleep in their dens. | 22At dawn they slink back into their dens to rest. |
| 23Men then go out to do their work, and labor away until evening. | 23Then people go off to their work, where they labor until evening. |
| 24How many living things you have made, O LORD! You have exhibited great skill in making all of them; the earth is full of the living things you have made. | 24O LORD, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures. |
| 25Over here is the deep, wide sea, which teems with innumerable swimming creatures, living things both small and large. | 25Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both large and small. |
| 26The ships travel there, and over here swims the whale you made to play in it. | 26See the ships sailing along, and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea. |
| 27All of your creatures wait for you to provide them with food on a regular basis. | 27They all depend on you to give them food as they need it. |
| 28You give food to them and they receive it; you open your hand and they are filled with food. | 28When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied. |
| 29When you ignore them, they panic. When you take away their life's breath, they die and return to dust. | 29But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. |
| 30When you send your life-giving breath, they are created, and you replenish the surface of the ground. | 30When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth. |
| 31May the splendor of the LORD endure! May the LORD find pleasure in the living things he has made! | 31May the glory of the LORD continue forever! The LORD takes pleasure in all he has made! |
| 32He looks down on the earth and it shakes; he touches the mountains and they start to smolder. | 32The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains smoke at his touch. |
| 33I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God as long as I exist! | 33I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! |
| 34May my thoughts be pleasing to him! I will rejoice in the LORD. | 34May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. |
| 35May sinners disappear from the earth, and the wicked vanish! Praise the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD! | 35Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! |
