| 1Then the LORD said to Moses, "Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' | 1The LORD said to Moses, "Go up from here, you and the people whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' |
| 2I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. | 2I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. |
| 3Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. | 7Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the "tent of meeting." Anyone seeking the LORD would go out to the tent of meeting that was outside the camp. |
| 8And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. | 8And when Moses went out to the tent, all the people would get up and stand at the entrance to their tents and watch Moses until he entered the tent. |
| 9As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the LORD spoke with Moses. | 9And whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the LORD would speak with Moses. |

| 11The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. | 12Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' | 12Moses said to the LORD, "See, you have been saying to me, 'Bring this people up,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, 'I know you by name, and also you have found favor in my sight.' |
| 13If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people." | 13Now if I have found favor in your sight, show me your way, that I may know you, that I may continue to find favor in your sight. | 15Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. | 15And Moses said to him, "If your presence does not go with us, do not take us up from here. |
| 16How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" | 16For how will it be known then that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?" |
| 17And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name." | 17The LORD said to Moses, "I will do this thing also that you have requested, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name." |
| 18Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." | 18And Moses said, "Show me your glory." |
| 19And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. | 19And the LORD said, "I will make all my goodness pass before your face, and I will proclaim the LORD by name before you; I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy." |
| 20But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." | 20But he added, "You cannot see my face, for no one can see me and live." |
| 21Then the LORD said, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. | 21The LORD said, "Here is a place by me; you will station yourself on a rock. |
| 22When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. | 22When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and will cover you with my hand while I pass by. |
