| 1After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. | 1After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (also called the Sea of Tiberias). |
| 2Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. | 2A large crowd was following him because they were observing the miraculous signs he was performing on the sick. |
| 3And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. | 3So Jesus went on up the mountainside and sat down there with his disciples. |
| 4Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. | 4(Now the Jewish feast of the Passover was near.) |

| 23however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks— | 23But some boats from Tiberias came to shore near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. |
| 24when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. | 24So when the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. |
| 25And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?” | 25When they found him on the other side of the lake, they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?" |
| 26Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. | 26Jesus replied, "I tell you the solemn truth, you are looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate all the loaves of bread you wanted. |
| 27Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” | 27Do not work for the food that disappears, but for the food that remains to eternal life--the food which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him." |
| 28Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” | 28So then they said to him, "What must we do to accomplish the deeds God requires?" |
| 29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” | 29Jesus replied, "This is the deed God requires--to believe in the one whom he sent." |
| 30Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? | 30So they said to him, "Then what miraculous sign will you perform, so that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? |
| 31Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ” | 31Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" |
| 32Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. | 32Then Jesus told them, "I tell you the solemn truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but my Father is giving you the true bread from heaven. |

| 42And they said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” | 42and they said, "Isn't this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" |
| 43Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves. | 43Jesus replied, "Do not complain about me to one another. |
| 44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. | 44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. |

| 64But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. | 64But there are some of you who do not believe." | 65And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.” | 65So Jesus added, "Because of this I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has allowed him to come." |
| 66From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. | 66After this many of his disciples quit following him and did not accompany him any longer. |
| 67Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” | 67So Jesus said to the twelve, "You don't want to go away too, do you?" |
| 68But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. | 68Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. |
| 69Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” | 69We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God!" |
| 70Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” | 70Jesus replied, "Didn't I choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is the devil?" |
