NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:1Then Eliphaz the Temanite responded,1Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,1Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
"Would a wise person answer with empty notions or fill their belly with the hot east wind?2“Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?2"Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge And fill himself with the east wind?2Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?2Does a wise man answer with empty counsel or fill himself with the hot east wind?
Would they argue with useless words, with speeches that have no value?3Should he argue in unprofitable talk, or in words with which he can do no good?3"Should he argue with useless talk, Or with words which are not profitable?3Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?3Should he argue with useless talk or with words that serve no good purpose?
But you even undermine piety and hinder devotion to God.4But you are doing away with the fear of God and hindering meditation before God.4"Indeed, you do away with reverence And hinder meditation before God.4Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.4But you even undermine the fear of God and hinder meditation before Him.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Your sin prompts your mouth; you adopt the tongue of the crafty.5For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.5"For your guilt teaches your mouth, And you choose the language of the crafty.5For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.5Your iniquity teaches you what to say, and you choose the language of the crafty.
Your own mouth condemns you, not mine; your own lips testify against you.6Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; your own lips testify against you.6"Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; And your own lips testify against you.6Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.6Your own mouth condemns you, not I; your own lips testify against you.
"Are you the first man ever born? Were you brought forth before the hills?7“Are you the first man who was born? Or were you brought forth before the hills?7"Were you the first man to be born, Or were you brought forth before the hills?7Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?7Were you the first person ever born, or were you brought forth before the hills?
Do you listen in on God's council? Do you have a monopoly on wisdom?8Have you listened in the council of God? And do you limit wisdom to yourself?8"Do you hear the secret counsel of God, And limit wisdom to yourself?8Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?8Do you listen in on the council of God, or have a monopoly on wisdom?
What do you know that we do not know? What insights do you have that we do not have?9What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not clear to us?9"What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that we do not?9What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?9What do you know that we don't? What do you understand that is not clear to us?
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
The gray-haired and the aged are on our side, men even older than your father.10Both the gray-haired and the aged are among us, older than your father.10"Both the gray-haired and the aged are among us, Older than your father.10With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.10Both the gray-haired and the elderly are with us, men older than your father.
Are God's consolations not enough for you, words spoken gently to you?11Are the comforts of God too small for you, or the word that deals gently with you?11"Are the consolations of God too small for you, Even the word spoken gently with you?11Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?11Are God's consolations not enough for you, even the words that deal gently with you?
Why has your heart carried you away, and why do your eyes flash,12Why does your heart carry you away, and why do your eyes flash,12"Why does your heart carry you away? And why do your eyes flash,12Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,12Why has your heart misled you, and why do your eyes flash
so that you vent your rage against God and pour out such words from your mouth?13that you turn your spirit against God and bring such words out of your mouth?13That you should turn your spirit against God And allow such words to go out of your mouth?13That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?13as you turn your anger against God and allow such words to leave your mouth?
"What are mortals, that they could be pure, or those born of woman, that they could be righteous?14What is man, that he can be pure? Or he who is born of a woman, that he can be righteous?14"What is man, that he should be pure, Or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?14What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?14What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes,15Behold, God puts no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight;15"Behold, He puts no trust in His holy ones, And the heavens are not pure in His sight;15Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.15If God puts no trust in His holy ones and the heavens are not pure in His sight,
how much less mortals, who are vile and corrupt, who drink up evil like water!16how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks injustice like water!16How much less one who is detestable and corrupt, Man, who drinks iniquity like water!16How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?16how much less one who is revolting and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?
"Listen to me and I will explain to you; let me tell you what I have seen,17“I will show you; hear me, and what I have seen I will declare17"I will tell you, listen to me; And what I have seen I will also declare;17I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;17Listen to me and I will inform you. I will describe what I have seen,
what the wise have declared, hiding nothing received from their ancestors18(what wise men have told, without hiding it from their fathers,18What wise men have told, And have not concealed from their fathers,18Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:18what was declared by wise men and was not suppressed by their ancestors,
(to whom alone the land was given when no foreigners moved among them):19to whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them).19To whom alone the land was given, And no alien passed among them.19Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.19the land was given to them alone when no foreigner passed among them.

All his days the wicked man suffers torment, the ruthless man through all the years stored up for him.20The wicked man writhes in pain all his days, through all the years that are laid up for the ruthless.20"The wicked man writhes in pain all his days, And numbered are the years stored up for the ruthless.20The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.20A wicked man writhes in pain all his days; only a few years are reserved for the ruthless.
Terrifying sounds fill his ears; when all seems well, marauders attack him.21Dreadful sounds are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon him.21"Sounds of terror are in his ears; While at peace the destroyer comes upon him.21A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.21Dreadful sounds fill his ears; when he is at peace, a robber attacks him.
He despairs of escaping the realm of darkness; he is marked for the sword.22He does not believe that he will return out of darkness, and he is marked for the sword.22"He does not believe that he will return from darkness, And he is destined for the sword.22He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.22He doesn't believe he will return from darkness; he is destined for the sword.
He wanders about for food like a vulture; he knows the day of darkness is at hand.23He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that a day of darkness is ready at his hand;23"He wanders about for food, saying, 'Where is it?' He knows that a day of darkness is at hand.23He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.23He wanders about for food, saying, "Where is it?" He knows the day of darkness is at hand.
Distress and anguish fill him with terror; troubles overwhelm him, like a king poised to attack,24distress and anguish terrify him; they prevail against him, like a king ready for battle.24"Distress and anguish terrify him, They overpower him like a king ready for the attack,24Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.24Trouble and distress terrify him, overwhelming him like a king prepared for battle.

because he shakes his fist at God and vaunts himself against the Almighty,25Because he has stretched out his hand against God and defies the Almighty,25Because he has stretched out his hand against God And conducts himself arrogantly against the Almighty.25For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.25For he has stretched out his hand against God and has arrogantly opposed the Almighty.
defiantly charging against him with a thick, strong shield.26running stubbornly against him with a thickly bossed shield;26"He rushes headlong at Him With his massive shield.26He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:26He rushes headlong at Him with his thick, studded shields.
"Though his face is covered with fat and his waist bulges with flesh,27because he has covered his face with his fat and gathered fat upon his waist27"For he has covered his face with his fat And made his thighs heavy with flesh.27Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.27Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with it,
he will inhabit ruined towns and houses where no one lives, houses crumbling to rubble.28and has lived in desolate cities, in houses that none should inhabit, which were ready to become heaps of ruins;28"He has lived in desolate cities, In houses no one would inhabit, Which are destined to become ruins.28And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.28he will dwell in ruined cities, in abandoned houses destined to become piles of rubble.
He will no longer be rich and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the land.29he will not be rich, and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the earth;29"He will not become rich, nor will his wealth endure; And his grain will not bend down to the ground.29He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.29He will no longer be rich; his wealth will not endure. His possessions will not increase in the land.

He will not escape the darkness; a flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God's mouth will carry him away.30he will not depart from darkness; the flame will dry up his shoots, and by the breath of his mouth he will depart.30"He will not escape from darkness; The flame will wither his shoots, And by the breath of His mouth he will go away.30He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.30He will not escape from the darkness; flames will wither his shoots, and by the breath of God's mouth, he will depart.
Let him not deceive himself by trusting what is worthless, for he will get nothing in return.31Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his payment.31"Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself; For emptiness will be his reward.31Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.31Let him not put trust in worthless things, being led astray, for what he gets in exchange will prove worthless.
Before his time he will wither, and his branches will not flourish.32It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not be green.32"It will be accomplished before his time, And his palm branch will not be green.32It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.32It will be accomplished before his time, and his branch will not flourish.
He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree shedding its blossoms.33He will shake off his unripe grape like the vine, and cast off his blossom like the olive tree.33"He will drop off his unripe grape like the vine, And will cast off his flower like the olive tree.33He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.33He will be like a vine that drops its unripe grapes and like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.
For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of those who love bribes.34For the company of the godless is barren, and fire consumes the tents of bribery.34"For the company of the godless is barren, And fire consumes the tents of the corrupt.34For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.34For the company of the godless will have no children, and fire will consume the tents of those who offer bribes.
They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb fashions deceit."35They conceive trouble and give birth to evil, and their womb prepares deceit.”35"They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity, And their mind prepares deception."35They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.35They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb prepares deception.
