Jerusalem Will Fall to Babylon
1 הַדָּבָ֛ר (The word) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) הָיָ֥ה (came to be) אֶֽל־ (to) יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ (Jeremiah) מֵאֵ֣ת (from) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), בִּשְׁלֹ֨חַ (sending) אֵלָ֜יו (to him) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (by King) צִדְקִיָּ֗הוּ (Zedekiah) אֶת־ (-) פַּשְׁחוּר֙ (Pashhur) בֶּן־ (son) מַלְכִּיָּ֔ה (of Malchijah), וְאֶת־ (and) צְפַנְיָ֧ה (Zephaniah) בֶן־ (son) מַעֲשֵׂיָ֛ה (of Maaseiah) הַכֹּהֵ֖ן (the priest), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying),
2 דְּרָשׁ־ (Inquire), נָ֤א (please), בַעֲדֵ֙נוּ֙ (for us) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) כִּ֛י (for) נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר (Nebuchadnezzar) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) בָּבֶ֖ל (of Babylon) נִלְחָ֣ם (is making war) עָלֵ֑ינוּ (against us) אוּלַי֩ (Perhaps) יַעֲשֶׂ֨ה (will deal) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אוֹתָ֙נוּ֙ (with us) כְּכָל־ (according to all) נִפְלְאֹתָ֔יו (His wonderful deeds), וְיַעֲלֶ֖ה (and he will go away) מֵעָלֵֽינוּ׃ס (from us).
3 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And said) יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ (Jeremiah) אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם (to them) כֹּ֥ה (Thus) תֹאמְרֻ֖ן (you⁺ shall say) אֶל־ (to) צִדְקִיָּֽהוּ׃ (Zedekiah);
4 כֹּֽה־ (thus) אָמַ֨ר (says) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel); הִנְנִ֣י (Behold, I) מֵסֵב֮ (am going to turn back) אֶת־ (-) כְּלֵ֣י (the weapons) הַמִּלְחָמָה֮ (of war) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that are) בְּיֶדְכֶם֒ (in your⁺ hands), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (with which) אַתֶּ֜ם (you⁺) נִלְחָמִ֣ים (will be fighting) בָּ֗ם (against) אֶת־ (-) מֶ֤לֶךְ (the king) בָּבֶל֙ (of Babylon), וְאֶת־ (and) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים (the Chaldeans), הַצָּרִ֣ים (setting up siege) עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם (against you⁺) מִח֖וּץ (from outside) לַֽחוֹמָ֑ה (the walls), וְאָסַפְתִּ֣י (and I will gather) אוֹתָ֔ם (them) אֶל־ (in) תּ֖וֹךְ (the midst) הָעִ֥יר (of the city) הַזֹּֽאת׃ (this).
5 וְנִלְחַמְתִּ֤י (Will fight) אֲנִי֙ (and I) אִתְּכֶ֔ם (against you⁺) בְּיָ֥ד (hand) נְטוּיָ֖ה (with an outstretched) וּבִזְר֣וֹעַ (arm), חֲזָקָ֑ה (and with a mighty) וּבְאַ֥ף (and in anger), וּבְחֵמָ֖ה (and in fury), וּבְקֶ֥צֶף (wrath) גָּדֽוֹל׃ (and in great).
6 וְהִכֵּיתִ֗י (And I will strike) אֶת־ (-) יֽוֹשְׁבֵי֙ (the dwellers) הָעִ֣יר (city), הַזֹּ֔את (of this) וְאֶת־ (both) הָאָדָ֖ם (man) וְאֶת־ (and) הַבְּהֵמָ֑ה (beast); בְּדֶ֥בֶר (pestilence) גָּד֖וֹל (by a great) יָמֻֽתוּ׃ (they will die).
7 וְאַחֲרֵי־ (And after) כֵ֣ן (thus) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֡ה (of YHWH), אֶתֵּ֣ן (I will give) אֶת־ (-) צִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ (Zedekiah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָ֣ה (of Judah), וְאֶת־ (and) עֲבָדָ֣יו׀ (his servants), וְאֶת־ (and) הָעָ֡ם (the people), וְאֶת־ (and) הַנִּשְׁאָרִים֩ (those left over) בָּעִ֨יר (city) הַזֹּ֜את (in this) מִן־ (from) הַדֶּ֣בֶר׀ (the pestilence), מִן־ (and from) הַחֶ֣רֶב (the sword), וּמִן־ (and from) הָרָעָ֗ב (the famine), בְּיַד֙ (into the hand) נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֣ר (of Nebuchadnezzar) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) בָּבֶ֔ל (of Babylon), וּבְיַד֙ (and into the hand) אֹֽיְבֵיהֶ֔ם (of their enemies), וּבְיַ֖ד (and into the hand) מְבַקְשֵׁ֣י (of those seeking) נַפְשָׁ֑ם (their soul); וְהִכָּ֣ם (and he will strike them) לְפִי־ (with the mouth) חֶ֔רֶב (of the sword); לֹֽא־ (not) יָח֣וּס (he will spare) עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (them) וְלֹ֥א (and not) יַחְמֹ֖ל (have pity), וְלֹ֥א (and not) יְרַחֵֽם׃ (have compassion).
8 וְאֶל־ (And to) הָעָ֤ם (the people) הַזֶּה֙ (this) תֹּאמַ֔ר (you shall say), כֹּ֖ה (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH) הִנְנִ֤י (Behold, I) נֹתֵן֙ (am setting) לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם (before you⁺) אֶת־ (-) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (the way) הַחַיִּ֖ים (of the life), וְאֶת־ (and) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (the way) הַמָּֽוֶת׃ (of the death).
9 הַיֹּשֵׁב֙ (The one staying settled) בָּעִ֣יר (city) הַזֹּ֔את (in this) יָמ֕וּת (will die) בַּחֶ֖רֶב (by the sword), וּבָרָעָ֣ב (and by the famine), וּבַדָּ֑בֶר (and by the pestilence); וְהַיּוֹצֵא֩ (and the one going out), וְנָפַ֨ל (and falling away) עַל־ (to) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֜ים (the Chaldeans) הַצָּרִ֤ים (that besiege) עֲלֵיכֶם֙ (you⁺) יִחְיֶה (and he even shall live), וְהָֽיְתָה־ (will be) לּ֥וֹ (to him) נַפְשׁ֖וֹ (and his soul) לְשָׁלָֽל׃ (as a prize).
10 כִּ֣י (For) שַׂ֣מְתִּי (I have set) פָ֠נַי (My face) בָּעִ֨יר (city) הַזֹּ֧את (against this) לְרָעָ֛ה (for evil), וְלֹ֥א (and not) לְטוֹבָ֖ה (for good), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH). בְּיַד־ (Into the hand) מֶ֤לֶךְ (of the king) בָּבֶל֙ (of Babylon), תִּנָּתֵ֔ן (it will be given) וּשְׂרָפָ֖הּ (and he will burn it) בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ס (with fire).
A Message to the House of David
11 וּלְבֵית֙ (And to the house) מֶ֣לֶךְ (of the king) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah), שִׁמְע֖וּ (Hear) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH);
12 בֵּ֣ית (O house) דָּוִ֗ד (of David), כֹּ֚ה (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH);
דִּ֤ינוּ (Judge) לַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ (in the morning), מִשְׁפָּ֔ט (with justice)
וְהַצִּ֥ילוּ (and deliver) גָז֖וּל (the one plundered)
מִיַּ֣ד (from the hand) עוֹשֵׁ֑ק (of the oppressor),
פֶּן־ (lest) תֵּצֵ֨א (go forth) כָאֵ֜שׁ (like the fire), חֲמָתִ֗י (My fury) וּבָעֲרָה֙ (and burn)
וְאֵ֣ין (so that no one) מְכַבֶּ֔ה (can quench it)
מִפְּנֵ֖י (because) רֹ֥עַ (of the evil) מַעַלְלֵיהֶם׃ (of your⁺ deeds).
13 הִנְנִ֨י (Behold, I am) אֵלַ֜יִךְ (against you) יֹשֶׁ֧בֶת (O dweller) הָעֵ֛מֶק (of the valley),
צ֥וּר (O rock) הַמִּישֹׁ֖ר (of the plain),
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH);
הָאֹֽמְרִים֙ (who say), מִֽי־ (Who) יֵחַ֣ת (shall come down) עָלֵ֔ינוּ (against us)
וּמִ֥י (or who) יָב֖וֹא (shall come) בִּמְעוֹנוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ (into our dwellings)?
14 וּפָקַדְתִּ֧י (And I will attend) עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם (to you⁺) כִּפְרִ֥י (according to the fruit) מַעַלְלֵיכֶ֖ם (of your⁺ deeds),
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH),
וְהִצַּ֤תִּי (and I will kindle) אֵשׁ֙ (a fire) בְּיַעְרָ֔הּ (in its forest)
וְאָכְלָ֖ה (and it will devour) כָּל־ (all) סְבִיבֶֽיהָ׃ס (around it).
