In Yahweh I Take Refuge
(Habakkuk 1:12–17)

לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ (For the one directing). לְדָ֫וִ֥ד (Of David).

1בַּֽיהוָ֨ה׀ (In YHWH) חָסִ֗יתִי (I have taken refuge).

אֵ֭יךְ (How) תֹּאמְר֣וּ (can you⁺ say) לְנַפְשִׁ֑י (to my soul),

נוּדוּ (Flee) הַרְכֶ֥ם (to your⁺ mountain) צִפּֽוֹר׃ (a bird)!

2  כִּ֤י (For), הִנֵּ֪ה (behold), הָרְשָׁעִ֡ים (the wicked) יִדְרְכ֬וּן (tread) קֶ֗שֶׁת (the bow),

כּוֹנְנ֣וּ (they make ready) חִצָּ֣ם (their arrow) עַל־ (upon) יֶ֑תֶר (the string),

לִיר֥וֹת (to shoot) בְּמוֹ־ (in) אֹ֝֗פֶל (the darkness) לְיִשְׁרֵי־ (at those upright) לֵֽב׃ (in heart).

3  כִּ֣י (If) הַ֭שָּׁתוֹת (the foundations) יֵֽהָרֵס֑וּן (are thrown down)—

צַ֝דִּ֗יק (the righteous), מַה־ (what) פָּעָֽל׃ (can he do)?

4  יְהוָ֤ה׀ (YHWH is) בְּֽהֵ֘יכַ֤ל (in the temple) קָדְשׁ֗וֹ (of His holiness);

יְהוָה֮ (YHWH)— בַּשָּׁמַ֪יִם (in the heavens) כִּ֫סְא֥וֹ (is His throne).

עֵינָ֥יו (His eyes) יֶחֱז֑וּ (are watching),

עַפְעַפָּ֥יו (His eyelids) יִ֝בְחֲנ֗וּ (examine) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) אָדָֽם׃ (of man).

5  יְהוָה֮ (YHWH) צַדִּ֪יק (the righteous) יִ֫בְחָ֥ן (tests),

וְ֭רָשָׁע (and the wicked one) וְאֹהֵ֣ב (and the lover) חָמָ֑ס (of violence) שָֽׂנְאָ֥ה (hates) נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ (His soul).

6  יַמְטֵ֥ר (May He rain down) עַל־ (upon) רְשָׁעִ֗ים (the wicked) פַּ֫חִ֥ים (coals) אֵ֣שׁ (fire) וְ֭גָפְרִית (and brimstone),

וְר֥וּחַ (and a wind) זִלְעָפ֗וֹת (burning) מְנָ֣ת (is the portion) כּוֹסָֽם׃ (of their cup).

7  כִּֽי־ (For) צַדִּ֣יק (righteous is) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH); צְדָק֣וֹת (righteousness) אָהֵ֑ב (He loves);

יָ֝שָׁ֗ר (the upright one) יֶחֱז֥וּ (will see) פָנֵֽימוֹ׃ (His face).
