The Godly Are No More

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ (For the one directing) עַֽל־ (according to) הַשְּׁמִינִ֗ית (Sheminith), מִזְמ֥וֹר (a Psalm) לְדָוִֽד׃ (of David).

1הוֹשִׁ֣יעָה (Help), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), כִּי־ (for) גָמַ֣ר (ceases to be) חָסִ֑יד (the godly one);

כִּי־ (for) פַ֥סּוּ (disappear) אֱ֝מוּנִ֗ים (the faithful ones) מִבְּנֵ֥י (from the sons) אָדָֽם׃ (of man).

2  שָׁ֤וְא׀ (Vanity) יְֽדַבְּרוּ֮ (they speak), אִ֤ישׁ (each man) אֶת־ (with) רֵ֫עֵ֥הוּ (his neighbor);

שְׂפַ֥ת (with lips) חֲלָק֑וֹת (of flattery), בְּלֵ֖ב (with heart) וָלֵ֣ב (and another heart) יְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃ (they speak).

3  יַכְרֵ֣ת (May cut off) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) כָּל־ (all) שִׂפְתֵ֣י (lips) חֲלָק֑וֹת (of flattery)

לָ֝שׁ֗וֹן (a tongue) מְדַבֶּ֥רֶת (speaking) גְּדֹלֽוֹת׃ (great things),

4  אֲשֶׁ֤ר (those who) אָֽמְר֨וּ׀ (have said), לִלְשֹׁנֵ֣נוּ (By our tongues) נַ֭גְבִּיר (we will prevail);

שְׂפָתֵ֣ינוּ (our lips are) אִתָּ֑נוּ (with us); מִ֖י (who is) אָד֣וֹן (lord) לָֽנוּ׃ (over us).

5  מִשֹּׁ֥ד (From the oppression) עֲנִיִּים֮ (of the poor),

מֵאַנְקַ֪ת (from the groaning) אֶבְי֫וֹנִ֥ים (of the needy),

עַתָּ֣ה (now) אָ֭קוּם (I shall arise), יֹאמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH).

אָשִׁ֥ית (I will set) בְּ֝יֵ֗שַׁע (in safety) יָפִ֥יחַֽ (him who breathes) לֽוֹ׃ (for it).

6  אִֽמֲר֣וֹת (The words) יְהוָה֮ (of YHWH) אֲמָר֪וֹת (are words) טְהֹ֫ר֥וֹת (pure)

כֶּ֣סֶף (silver) צָ֭רוּף (refined) בַּעֲלִ֣יל (in a furnace) לָאָ֑רֶץ (of earth),

מְ֝זֻקָּ֗ק (purified) שִׁבְעָתָֽיִם׃ (sevenfold).

7  אַתָּֽה־ (You), יְהוָ֥ה (O YHWH), תִּשְׁמְרֵ֑ם (shall keep them);

תִּצְּרֶ֓נּוּ׀ (You will guard them) מִן־ (from) הַדּ֖וֹר (the generation) ז֣וּ (this) לְעוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

8  סָבִ֗יב (On every side) רְשָׁעִ֥ים (the wicked) יִתְהַלָּכ֑וּן (walk),

כְּרֻ֥ם (is exalted) זֻ֝לּ֗וּת (vileness) לִבְנֵ֥י (by the sons) אָדָֽם׃ (of man).
