In You My Soul Takes Refuge
(1 Samuel 22:1–5; Psalm 108:1–13; Psalm 142:1–7)

לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ (For the one directing): אַל־ (To Do not) תַּ֭שְׁחֵת (Destroy). לְדָוִ֣ד (Of David) מִכְתָּ֑ם (a Miktam), בְּבָרְח֥וֹ (in his fleeing) מִפְּנֵי־ (from the face) שָׁ֝א֗וּל (of Saul) בַּמְּעָרָֽה׃ (in the cave).

1חָנֵּ֤נִי (Have mercy on me), אֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ (O God), חָנֵּ֗נִי (have mercy on me).

כִּ֥י (For) בְךָ֮ (in You) חָסָ֪יָה (takes refuge) נַ֫פְשִׁ֥י (my soul),

וּבְצֵֽל־ (and in the shadow) כְּנָפֶ֥יךָ (of Your wings) אֶחְסֶ֑ה (I will make my refuge),

עַ֝֗ד (until) יַעֲבֹ֥ר (have passed by) הַוּֽוֹת׃ (the calamities).

2  אֶ֭קְרָא (I will call out) לֵֽאלֹהִ֣ים (to El-) עֶלְי֑וֹן (Elyon),

לָ֝אֵ֗ל (to God) גֹּמֵ֥ר (who fulfills) עָלָֽי׃ (for me).

3  יִשְׁלַ֤ח (He sends forth) מִשָּׁמַ֨יִם׀ (from the heavens) וְֽיוֹשִׁיעֵ֗נִי (and saves me);

חֵרֵ֣ף (He rebukes) שֹׁאֲפִ֣י (the one panting after me).

סֶ֑לָה (Selah)

יִשְׁלַ֥ח (sends forth) אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים (God)

חַסְדּ֥וֹ (His loving devotion) וַאֲמִתּֽוֹ׃ (and His faithfulness).

4  נַפְשִׁ֤י׀ (My soul) בְּת֥וֹךְ (is in the midst) לְבָאִם֮ (of lions);

אֶשְׁכְּבָ֪ה (I lie down) לֹ֫הֲטִ֥ים (among flames)—

בְּֽנֵי־ (the sons) אָדָ֗ם (of men); שִׁ֭נֵּיהֶם (their teeth are) חֲנִ֣ית (spears) וְחִצִּ֑ים (and arrows),

וּ֝לְשׁוֹנָ֗ם (and their tongue) חֶ֣רֶב (is a sword) חַדָּֽה׃ (sharp).

5  ר֣וּמָה (Be exalted) עַל־ (above) הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens), אֱלֹהִ֑ים (O God);

עַ֖ל (above) כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֣רֶץ (the earth) כְּבוֹדֶֽךָ׃ (Your glory).

6  רֶ֤שֶׁת׀ (A net) הֵכִ֣ינוּ (they have prepared) לִפְעָמַי֮ (for my steps);

כָּפַ֪ף (is bent down) נַ֫פְשִׁ֥י (My soul);

כָּר֣וּ (they have dug) לְפָנַ֣י (before me) שִׁיחָ֑ה (a pit)—

נָפְל֖וּ (may they fall) בְתוֹכָ֣הּ (into its midst).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

7  נָ֘כ֤וֹן (is steadfast) לִבִּ֣י (my heart), אֱ֭לֹהִים (O God), נָכ֣וֹן (is steadfast) לִבִּ֑י (my heart).

אָ֝שִׁ֗ירָה (I will sing) וַאֲזַמֵּֽרָה׃ (and make music).

8  ע֤וּרָה (Awake), כְבוֹדִ֗י (my glory),

ע֭וּרָֽה (awake), הַנֵּ֥בֶל (O harp) וְכִנּ֗וֹר (and lyre)!

אָעִ֥ירָה (I will awaken) שָּֽׁחַר׃ (the dawn).

9  אוֹדְךָ֖ (I will confess You) בָעַמִּ֥ים׀ (among the peoples), אֲדֹנָ֑י (O Lord);

אֲ֝זַמֶּרְךָ֗ (I will make music to You) בַּל־ (among) אֻמִּֽים׃ (the nations).

10  כִּֽי־ (For) גָדֹ֣ל (reaches) עַד־ (to) שָׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens) חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ (Your loving devotion),

וְֽעַד־ (and to) שְׁחָקִ֥ים (the clouds) אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃ (Your faithfulness).

11  ר֣וּמָה (Be lifted high) עַל־ (above) שָׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens), אֱלֹהִ֑ים (O God);

עַ֖ל (and above) כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֣רֶץ (the earth) כְּבוֹדֶֽךָ׃ (Your glory).
