And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria.

God assured Hezekiah that neither the king nor Jerusalem would fall to Sennacherib. Assyria had already destroyed the northern kingdom of Israel and subdued much of Judah, making its threat against Jerusalem severe and immediate. Deliverance would come by God’s power rather than Judah’s military strength.
