Berean Study BibleNew Living Translation
Give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; make known His deeds among the nations.1Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; tell of all His wonders.2Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.
Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.3Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD.
Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.4Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.
Remember the wonders He has done, His marvels, and the judgments He has pronounced,5Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given,
O offspring of His servant Abraham, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones.6you children of his servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the LORD our God; His judgments carry throughout the earth.7He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land.
He remembers His covenant forever, the word He ordained for a thousand generations—8He always stands by his covenant— the commitment he made to a thousand generations.
the covenant He made with Abraham, and the oath He swore to Isaac.9This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:10He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant:
“I will give you the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.”11“I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.”
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,12He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan.
they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.13They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
He let no man oppress them; He rebuked kings on their behalf:14Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf:
“Do not touch My anointed ones! Do no harm to My prophets!”15“Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.”
He called down famine on the land and cut off all their supplies of food.16He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply.
He sent a man before them—Joseph, sold as a slave.17Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
They bruised his feet with shackles and placed his neck in irons,18They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar.
until his prediction came true and the word of the LORD proved him right.19Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character.
The king sent and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free.20Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door.
He made him master of his household, ruler over all his substance,21Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions.
to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom.22He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers.
Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham.23Then Israel arrived in Egypt; Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham.
And the LORD made His people very fruitful, more numerous than their foes,24And the LORD multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies.
whose hearts He turned to hate His people, to conspire against His servants.25Then he turned the Egyptians against the Israelites, and they plotted against the LORD’s servants.
He sent Moses His servant, and Aaron, whom He had chosen.26But the LORD sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.
They performed His miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.27They performed miraculous signs among the Egyptians, and wonders in the land of Ham.
He sent darkness, and it became dark—yet they defied His words.28The LORD blanketed Egypt in darkness, for they had defied his commands to let his people go.
He turned their waters to blood and caused their fish to die.29He turned their water into blood, poisoning all the fish.
Their land teemed with frogs, even in their royal chambers.30Then frogs overran the land and even invaded the king’s bedrooms.
He spoke, and insects swarmed—gnats throughout their country.31When the LORD spoke, flies descended on the Egyptians, and gnats swarmed across Egypt.
He gave them hail for rain, with lightning throughout their land.32He sent them hail instead of rain, and lightning flashed over the land.
He struck their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country.33He ruined their grapevines and fig trees and shattered all the trees.
He spoke, and the locusts came—young locusts without number.34He spoke, and hordes of locusts came— young locusts beyond number.
They devoured every plant in their land and consumed the produce of their soil.35They ate up everything green in the land, destroying all the crops in their fields.
Then He struck all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their vigor.36Then he killed the oldest son in each Egyptian home, the pride and joy of each family.
He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and none among His tribes stumbled.37The LORD brought his people out of Egypt, loaded with silver and gold; and not one among the tribes of Israel even stumbled.
Egypt was glad when they departed, for the dread of Israel had fallen on them.38Egypt was glad when they were gone, for they feared them greatly.
He spread a cloud as a covering and a fire to light up the night.39The LORD spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness.
They asked, and He brought quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.40They asked for meat, and he sent them quail; he satisfied their hunger with manna—bread from heaven.
He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert.41He split open a rock, and water gushed out to form a river through the dry wasteland.
For He remembered His holy promise to Abraham His servant.42For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham.
He brought forth His people with rejoicing, His chosen with shouts of joy.43So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing.
He gave them the lands of the nations, that they might inherit the fruit of others’ labor,44He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted.
that they might keep His statutes and obey His laws. Hallelujah!45All this happened so they would follow his decrees and obey his instructions. Praise the LORD!
