Mark 13

International Standard VersionKing James Bible
As Jesus was leaving the Temple, one of his disciples told him, "Look, Teacher, what large stones and what beautiful buildings!"1And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!
"Do you see these large buildings?" Jesus responded. "Not one stone here will be left on another that will not be torn down."2And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives facing the Temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew were asking him privately, 3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
"Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign when these things will be put into effect?"4Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
Jesus began to say to them, "See to it that no one deceives you. 5And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
Many will come in my name and say, 'I AM,' and they will deceive many people.6For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, stop being alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn't come yet, 7And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.
because nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes and famines in various places. These things are only the beginning of the birth pains."8For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
"As for yourselves, be on your guard! People will hand you over to local councils, and you will be beaten in their synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings to testify to them because of me. 9But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
But first, the gospel must be proclaimed to all nations.10And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
When they take you away and hand you over for trial, don't worry ahead of time about what you will say. Instead, say whatever is given to you at that time, because it won't be you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. 11But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 12Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
You will be hated continuously by everyone because of my name. But the person who endures to the end will be saved."13And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
"So when you see the destructive desecration standing where it should not be (let the reader take note), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 14But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
The one who is on his housetop must not come down and go into his house to take anything out of it, 15And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
and the one who's in the field must not turn back to get his coat.16And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
"How terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days! 17But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
Pray that it may not be in winter, 18And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.
because those days will be a time of suffering, a kind that has not happened from the beginning of God's creation until now, and certainly will never happen again. 19For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
If the Lord had not shortened those days, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect whom he has chosen, he has shortened those days.20And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
"At that time, if anyone says to you, 'Look! Here is the Messiah!', or, 'Look! There he is!' don't believe it, 21And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
because false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce signs and omens to deceive, if possible, the elect. 22For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
So be on your guard! I've told you everything before it happens."23But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
"But after the suffering of those days, 'The sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light,24But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken loose.' 25And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
Then people will see 'the Son of Man coming in clouds' with great power and glory. 26And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
He'll send out his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven."27And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
"Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and it produces leaves, you know that summer is near. 28Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
In the same way, when you see these things taking place, you will know that the Son of Man is near, right at the door. 29So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
I tell all of you with certainty, this generation will not disappear until all these things take place. 30Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear."31Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
"No one knows when that day or hour will come —not the angels in heaven, not the Son, but only the Father. 32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Be careful! Watch out! Because you don't know when the time will come. 33Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
It's like a man who went on a trip. As he left home, he put his servants in charge, each with his own work, and he ordered the doorkeeper to be alert. 34For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
So keep on watching, because you don't know when the master of the house is coming—whether in the evening, at three o'clock in the morning, or at dawn. 35Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Otherwise, he may come suddenly and find you asleep. 36Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
I'm telling you what I'm telling everyone: Be alert!"37And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
